I just recently visited and it was phenomenal! I wanted to spend an entire day combing through the books! They have amazing collections that are begging to be explored! I highly recommend visiting!

This is the best store  in hoover there is so much to see. Service is fast they have a lot of cool items.

One of my favorite stores and my first go-to for books and nerdy things like plushies, toys, etc. It's also great to have a place to sell back books, toys, etc that I don't want anymore.

My husband and I were in Birmingham for a few days and found this lovely store. Very organized, great selection and prices. Loved that they had used books as well as new books.

Had the best time! Turned in a box of old books that I no longer needed for store credit and picked up several new items! Love how much there is to see and search through. New favorite book store.

I could spend all day in here. Everything from books to guitars. Staff are super kind and helpful.

This 2nd and Charles location was huge! There was a lot in this store from books (used and new alike), DVDs, vinyl records, games, and so much more. I could probably spend hours here looking at the used book selections. I was able to find some reasonably-priced used books, some DVDs, and a couple of non-book items. This is the perfect place to do some holiday shopping, as there is something for everyone here. There are a lot of pop culture items available to look at and purchase, including stuffed animals and figurines. Check-out was simple and easy, and the employees were very nice.

Decided to stop here real quick and take a look around. Probably the best book store you can really think of. Almost reminds me of the blockbuster store that used to be back in the day where you could rent or even buy films. At least, I think that's what it's called.

Atmosphere: if you love books you already know you're gonna love it. There's different genres for books, audio books. Even manga lovers.

Amenities: honestly, they have those Funko pops if you want to buy those. You feel like selling like a book, maybe you can get cash for it. There's also a lot of DVDs so you could play it. Of course, you can't forget the music.

Conclusion: I would say it's pretty good for someone who reads a lot, but for me, I think I would just stop to look around. But check around at your own convenience.

I've been going here for years now, always fun to explore, so many things to see in this store, always new things traded in to look at, and a really easy process for trading things in for store credit or cash. On top of new items theres lots of retro games, collectibles, books, toys, and more! Also very friendly and helpful staff.

Is there a better book store?  2nd n Charles should be listed as one of the top ten reasons to move to Hoover Alabama.  Great staff, great selection great value.  Put down your screen and puck up some paper.... it's fundamental to why you love reading.

I always get the CD mystery box that has a variety of opened DCDs. There were again about 30 of them I haven't seen and sometimes beats going to the theater for late night entertainment.

My graduate studies after earning a Bachelors degree was at UCLA professional program in producing. I have no movie and this time didn't see any of my classmate movies.

We went on penny a page day. As expected, it was super busy. I was able to find most of what I wanted. The only real issue is the line wrapped around the building, but considering it was penny a page day, it was expected.

Wow this place is so cool! Literally my 9 year old son and I spend at least an hour inside every time we come here. They have cool stuff for little kids, big kids, teens, and adults. Seriously expect to spend a nice chunk of time just checking out what's inside.

I visited this bookstore for the first time and instantly fell in love with it. The arrangement is impeccable, and I was able to find all the books I was looking for. The staff's generosity added to the wonderful experience.♥️♥️♥️

Huge store. I'm a Stephen King fan, and they have a lot of of the books I was looking for.   And I'd pay the price for some of the books

This store is so cool! Its like a Barnes and Noble but they have way more stuff! Like non-book stuff! Video games, guitars, records and record players, tones of anime and manga stuff etc! Will definitely go again!

Totally cool store lots of neat things to check out!!  It is for sure for a younger crowd but hey it’s a really cool store to look around in.

Love the selection. I wish we had one closer.   I don’t make enough selling my books there to support my reading habit, but it's nice to have that option.

Really enjoyed 2nd & Charles. It feels a little odd to only see some of a series instead of all of it like in a store like Barnes & Noble, but the pricing is very good usually. It was really cool to see all the other stuff like Legos, vinyl, video games, movies, knicknacs, trading cards, etc... My only complaints were that it was a little warm in there and that the drink choices in the cooler were minimal.

Decent used bookstore. Also have dvds, blue rays, vinyl, video games, and collectibles. They give you pennies for your trades. Used books are about 25-60 percent off retail. Sometimes I take my trades back and just take a donation for them.

My only real complaint is that a lot of novelty items didn't have prices listed on their tags which left a lot of room to wonder and need to ask employees working inventory to check after.

I've removed one star for that as not every employee had the ability to look up handwritten tags, which also lowered what I was willing to walk to the register with and purchase.

I always find something to buy here. Did I need them? No. Do I want them? No. But they make great gifts for the people I know who do like Disney.

Great selection of new and used. One of my favorite places to wander around. Checkout is usually a slow process so make sure you give yourself plenty of time if you have somewhere to be.

Very large selection of books, movies, music, toys, etc. More new than used, which was a bit of a letdown. Staff were friendly.

AWESOME place, has everything a book, music, &movie lover could ever want! Even have a large Lego area& other kids items, as well as all sorts of electronics; from phones, cameras to gaming controllers!!! I definitely recommend this place for unusual finds, however pricing is a bit high for used items and overly priced for new items! That's the only downfall:/
Most all of the new items they carry can be purchased online or at other retailers for the same or even lower prices... They sell new books at the suggested retail price, yet the store is advertised as a "discount" store.
Aside from the pricing downfall, it's a great store for ALL AGES! Parents can browse as kid's (I'd say 7-8yo& up)... can sit in the little movie area& either watch a new released movie or play with the toys that are in the area! Bored spouses, friends, etc. can sit back& relax in several of the sitting areas...which are actually comfortable, unlike BAM& others, who only have metal benches!

Great place for kids of all ages; games, toys, books, retro, old, and used! Buy, sell, trade your electronics! My grandson calls this place Heaven!!

Really cool place with so many throwback items. Some of the prices are much higher than they should be on a lot of items but you can also find some very good deals if you take a good look around. If you are looking for vinyl records they have a huge selection.

I LOVE 2nd and Charles, but it isn’t kid friendly! Maybe I should say Toddler Mom friendly…They have a huge kids’ section sure, however they have no buggies that can hold a child! My 2.5 yr old doesn’t have the patience to sit and look at books, (she just wants to move!), even though I’m looking for books for her. I live a good distance away so don’t get to go often, and since we were in Hoover to get her hair cut I swung by the bookstore while we were there. Unfortunately I didn’t bring a stroller because what store that size doesn’t have a kid friendly buggy!?!? I wasn’t able to find a single book and walked out empty handed because I spent the little time I was in the store fighting to keep her in check. If I’d had a buggy I could have given her her popit and she would have been fine and I would have actually been able to look for what I was wanting! Instead it was 30 minutes of headache with no reward…

A good place to find cool books. One of the best things about Second and Charles are some of the employees. Although a small percentage are rude and awkward, several are true readers who are very helpful and knowledgeable.

One big issue I have is the ever shrinking African American section, which is now non-existent aside from February.

Overall the place is clean, has cool books and is easily accessible.

Although we love the store and the amazing new and used products they have, we were disappointed in the process of selling our used CDs and sheet books to them.  It was more of a combination of miscommunication from both parties.
We live in Dallas GA and we called ahead beforehand to make sure that they were interested in what we had.  It could be their fault for not asking for more information about them or maybe it was my fault for not being too specific about what we had to sell.
Either way it was a long drive but we found out that they would not take the sheet music books with CDs in them, they would only buy standalone accompaniment CDs or music books on a shelf that would have to show the name and title on the edge of the book is what we were told, The CD sleeves are attached to the inside of the books and our books only had the name and title on the front of the book.
We had brought six small suitcases of books with CDs in them for accompaniment for the trumpet.  It was very frustrating.

A lot to choose from.  Cool record selection, but the used books are a little overpriced.

I like they have lots of used music, movies, books, collectables and other assorted items. Things in the music and movie sections could br better organized. The service has gone way down since Craig moved on to better things.

they used to have good games and stuff and they used to give you good offers on your stuff but not no more

I like shopping here but my buyback experience was awful. They tried to give me $20 for a mint condition guitar that Guitar Center gave me $200 for. I do not recommend selling your guitar here.

This store has gone downhill for sellers. I used to take books here all the time to sell, and they would text you within a day that your order was ready. This most recent time they never contacted me at all.

They don’t pay you much for your books, but I don’t mind that as it easier than selling any other way and they have to make money somehow. I just wish they were better organized and had better customer service.

Sold some books here. Terrible experience. Dropped off a tote full of books and they took all of them for only $1.56. I understand they  have to make a profit too but this was insane. The process was not explained at all. Waited around with no staff available. Also walked around the store and could find used books online much cheaper than here. Never going back.

This place has a huge selection and lots of cool stuff. But the staff levels are pitiful. There is almost no one on the floor to ask questions of and we waited in line for 20 minutes to purchase or items. And the line was longer when we started when we left and they only had 2 registers open.
