I was doing some last minute holiday shopping in the antique shops in Canton and stopped into Swank Pearce Antiques and Decor. It was my first visit. The owners were there and their tendency was to "hover". I noticed a small primitive table-top christmas tree and asked the price. The owner told me that it was from her personal collection and that they had bought the tree from an artisan on a recent trip south and had paid twice what they were asking for it. She told me that she had watched the artisan hand-craft the little tree and had been fascinated with the process. It was cute and only about $50 so I bought it. It wasn't until after the holidays, when I was putting the tree away that I found the "Made in China" sticker on the bottom. Maybe they meant they watched it being made in South China? What I can't figure is why they would go to the trouble of making up such an elaborate yarn to basically sell a trinket. These people have some expensive things in their store; but you may want to be careful if you are tempted by anything. Caveat emptor.
