Having recently ventured into the radiant world of collecting ethnographic art and artifacts, I am thrilled to discover Primitive. Their collection of museum-quality items, both historical and contemporary, is a rare gem. They offer a huge array of pieces, spanning continents and cultures, with a strong focus on African and Asian artifacts. This is not just a store, it's a sanctuary for art enthusiasts. From ritualistic artifacts that whisper tales of ancestral ceremonies to luxury furniture imbued with the spirit of distant lands, each item has its own unique story to tell. The collection is diverse and, importantly -- authentic, and historically significant. It's a beautifully curated four-floor space, that merges education and aesthetic pleasure seamlessly. The displays are thoughtfully arranged, providing a visual narrative that is both enlightening and engaging. The ambiance is refined, yet warm, making it easy to lose track of time as you meander through the corridors of culture and history. The staff is knowledgeable, passionate and welcoming. They were eager to share the fascinating histories behind each piece and their enthusiasm was infectious. Their expertise not only enriched my visit but also deepened my appreciation for the art and artifacts I was admiring. The packaging and delivery service was efficient, ensuring my purchased treasures arrived safely and promptly. This business is a treasure trove for anyone with an interest in world artifacts. Whether you are a seasoned collector, a novice enthusiast, or simply a lover of history and culture, Primitive is sure to captivate your mind and heart. It is more than just a business, it's a bridge that connects us to the cultural richness of our world. They regularly host other events, such as string quartet concerts, which are a delight to attend. If you're a local, or just passing through town, this is a must-see in Chicago's West Loop.

This store/gallery is hands down one of the most incredible spaces in the city of Chicago. Primitive's collection of furniture and works of art spans 4 floors separated into spaces with different themes. I've visited museums and galleries all around the world but was shocked to learn such an incredible treasure trove exists right here in West Loop/Fulton River area. I've visited several times now, and Glen and Allison gave my girlfriend and I a full tour if the space, and even showed us a few special areas (shh). For both high end collectors and enthusiasts alike, this place is a must-visit.

This place is amazing! The owner Glen is wealth of knowledge and gave my fiancé and I a personal tour of every room from the top of the building to the basement, and even his and his wife’s personal offices. Glen knew a little something about every piece in the building and was more than happy to share anything and everything he knew.
