New Leash On Life Thrift: A Unique Antique Store Benefiting Homeless Animals
Nestled in the historic downtown of Frankfort, Kentucky, New Leash On Life Thrift is a one-of-a-kind antique store with a mission to support the local Franklin County Humane Society. As described by one reviewer, this store is "a breath of fresh air" compared to typical thrift shops, offering "reasonably priced" and "neat, clean, orderly" merchandise.
What sets New Leash On Life apart is its exclusive focus on antiques, collectibles, and vintage items - the store does not sell any regular clothing, except for the occasional "vintage piece." Customers rave about the diverse inventory, which includes "furniture, books, glassware and so on," as well as a wide selection of "antique houseware, linen, [and] craft" goods. One shopper even discovered "3 vintage books where one was a 1st audition from 1924 and the other two from the 1800's."
Beyond the merchandise, reviewers highlight the store's friendly and helpful staff, who go "above and beyond" to assist customers, even those with mobility challenges. As one patron noted, the volunteers "need to be commended for their dedication and compassion" in running the store.
The store's mission is to generate funds for the Franklin County Humane Society through the sale of donated goods. As the Facebook page states, "The money earned from the resale of your unneeded items goes directly to help pay for food, shelter, medical and adoption expenses as we work to provide forever-homes to homeless companion animals." Customers appreciate that their purchases directly support this worthy cause, with one reviewer declaring, "I'll never understand why anyone would complain about quality items being sold by volunteers to help homeless animals."
With its unique inventory, charitable mission, and dedicated volunteers, New Leash On Life Thrift has earned a loyal following among Frankfort-area shoppers. As one customer summarized, "Must-stop if I am in Frankfort."

Fantastic store with fantastic people! To those who think the prices are “too high”, you must not be aware that the store normally sells everything at 25% off, and frequently offers overstocked areas at 50%. Besides this, I’ll never understand why anyone would complain about quality items being sold by volunteers to help homeless animals. The store consistently needs help so rather than post negative comments consider spending a few days doing something very rewarding and lend a hand. You need to see the larger picture of what this store is about.

Compared to Goodwill this place is a breath of fresh air. Their prices are resonable especially with all the sales they have. I would much rather give my money to help a dog in need than to line the pockets of a bunch of ceos that that get it for free. I wish there were more people like this around. Great work and Great people!

I think this may be my favorite local thrift store I have come across in my time in Kentucky thus far. Something unique about New Leash on Life is they do not have clothes, except for a few occasional vintage pieces! They have a lot of neat older and antique houseware, linen, craft, furniture options. Prices very reasonable and store is well organized! I have found useful things for my home as well as multiple gifts for others here! Must-stop if I am in Frankfort. :)

New Leash On Life Thrift in Frankfort KY is a pretty cool thrift shop that has a little bit of everything from furniture, books, glassware and so on. I did find 3 vintage books where one was a 1st audition from 1924 and the other two from the 1800's. This place has a paddlers mall feel but just in the heart of Frankfort. It is well worth the stop in and say hi and see what catches your eye.
