I’m an interior designer who went to the Chagall exhibit with 2 friends and were greeted and shown around with explanations on many items. If anyone is in the market for art antiques or jewelry I would suggest taking a look at the entire gallery. You will be amazed at the attention you receive and the expert knowledge they will share. Thank you for the experience. Jeanne Taylor

...I was incredibly surprised and amazed at the wonderful collection of works at the Aspen Gallery, I found Chagall, Picazo and many other very well-known artists. Jim Gillis is by far the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff in any of the Aspen Galleries I have visited over the decades. Thank you!..

Exquisite is the only word I could use to describe this “museum”. Very nice staff and so cool that the general public are welcome to stop in. You can spend a solid hour in there and that would only cover the highlights.
Thank you so much! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to M.S. Rau.

Our visit to M.S. Rau was one of the most surprising and fascinating highlights of our trip to New Orleans! So much more than an antique store, M.S. Rau is a must-see destination in the French Quarter. Its historic location on Royal Street disguises a spacious interior filled with the most amazing collection of art, furniture, fine ceramics, and dazzling jewels I have ever seen. Every salesperson we met was knowledgeable and friendly, and all seemed very happy to show us around and share their knowledge about the items on display. We were not buyers, just browsers, and that didn't seem to bother them at all. My biggest concern was that my teenage son would find it boring, but it turned out the opposite was true. He was captivated by the artwork (including works by Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh, Chagal, and Renoir), as well as the collection of antique canes (including one that included a hidden revolver for self defense), and the furniture such as Napoleon's desk...he took more pictures than I could count! His only complaint was that we only had 2 hours to look around. He wanted more time! We all agreed to return again the next time we come to New Orleans. Highly recommend for teens and above as there are many treasures in the store that little hands might knock over. I must give a shout out to the young man who showed us many of the pieces of their fine jewelry collection. He was very knowledgeable as he filled us in on the history of each piece, including a 2,000 year old Roman ring and jewels once owned by Elizabeth Taylor. So much to see and learn! We loved our time here, and there is no cost at all to browse. Perfect!

I didn’t research much and thought it was just a few paintings. This is an amazing multi floor free exhibit of art, furniture, safes, silver, etc. it was overwhelmingly amazing. I will visit every time I come back to New Orleans. If you live history or art, you have to stop by and allow some time to visit. Every staff member I encountered was very nice.
We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your visit to M.S. Rau! We hope to see you again the next time you are in New Orleans.

One of my favorite places in New Orleans! It’s really a museum where everything is for sale. There is priceless art (actually there is a price tag on it) but in reality the value of these pieces are incredible. It is an amazing experience to see so many antiques several centuries old as well as original art from world renowned artists. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and professional without being too over bearing like in other galleries. You must either make a special trip to New Orleans to visit M S Rau or make sure to add it to your visitors agenda. This last visit in November 2024, they hosted an impressive exhibit by Marc Chagall. 🤩🤩. Wow Wow I encourage you to visit soon.
Thanks for the 5 Star review!

This place offers an impressive array of antiques and art. The woman at the entrance was wonderful, providing us with a brief history of the family and tips on the best way to explore the collection. The space is beautifully curated—offering a museum-like experience where everything is available for purchase.
