If your Nantucket visit is so short that you can only visit one shop, make it this one. It's just...magical, unlike any other. A truly remarkable range of wares on offer, belts, shoes, leather briefcases, handbags, and messenger bags, hats of all sorts, and of course the scrimshaw, probably the best selection in all of New England. Atmosphere is so quintessentially Nantucket, specifically the off-season vibe of autumn and winter, especially when the fireplace is lit. So by all means check it out, still owned by the Masters family who founded it ~half a century ago, and managed by a woman who's a direct patrilineal descendant of Tristram Coffin, the town's founder.

I grew up on Nantucket and most of downtown is unrecognizable, but Craftmasters takes me back to my childhood. A must-visit for gorgeous scrimshaw, leather crafts, and other artesanal items. Wonderful business run by great people.

Very unique store offering a wide variety of high quality and interesting items including leather goods, jewelry, knives, hats, and more. Made of old reclaimed wood back in the 70’s. Even if you don’t buy anything this place is worth going in to check out. And who knows, you may even walk out with something you love.
Thank you so much for the kind review and for sharing a bit of our history! In 1974, leatherworker and craftsman David Masters bought a tiny parcel of land downtown between two restaurants. You are correct - most of the wood he salvaged from old, 19th century buildings that were being torn down at the time. This contributes to our unique and historic appearence - many of the planks in our walls are over two feet in width and the building is solid - truly built to withstand Nantucket's winds and the weather. David was a unique and talented individual. 50 years later, his legacy continues through his son, Philip, who is building up the business that his father started decades ago.
