There has been a huge upgrade in the staff there, they are now very,very friendly and courteous. The experience was a good one,thank you. I got about $500.00 worth of Free People clothing in excellent condition for around $80.00. Thank you!!!

This place is great. I was looking at my shoes and realized half of them were from here LOL, so I may as well give credit where it's due. I've shopped here many times, and have brought my mom and sisters here, too. Never had a bad experience. I have gained a lot of trust for this place's quality control, allowing me to come here and buy whatever I think looks good without ever having to inspect items myself. That's peace of mind✌️. Bravo!

Great variety of options to choose from! I sold clothes here as well, be prepared to wait for them to sift through your clothes and get back to you because it gets busy, especially over the weekends.

Lots of clothing options! Just recently found a shirt that had been saved on my Pinterest! I have also given them clothes to sell. They are pretty picky.

The staff at cheapskate in Rockville Maryland have great customer service skills, they were very kind and helpful in spite of the busy season of customers selling and donating.

Another great shopping experience at Uptown Cheapskate! Went in to not buy anything and walked out with a new winter jacket in my FAVORITE color, plus some workout pants and coats for my daughters. Affordable and stylish.

I love this spot! It’s aimed at 15-25 year olds, but I still find good things even though I’m a bit older than that and not into ~the latest trends~. Folks who are much older may have a hard time finding their style here.

Love this neighborhood gem ! Easy process to donate / sell gently used clothes and either redeem for cash back or store credit . Every time I’m gone to donate clothes I end up purchasing new brand name goodies ! Great way to refresh your wardrobe :)

Wonderful experience! There were many clothes to choose from and I enjoyed trying them on. I got a good 👍 amount of clothes that fit. The staff were nice 👍.

I haven’t been here in years but the quality and selection is so much better than I remember. The store is also well organized. The employees are all very nice and professional as well, even when dealing with rude or unfriendly customers.

First time for my fiancé and I to visit this store. We were looking for a pretty cool and decent thrift shop. Checked google and this one popped up first. Had great ratings so decided to check it out. Arrival to the store was easy to see. Was greeted by the front associates (so that was nice 😊). Browsed through and both my fiancé and I found a shirt or two we appreciated. Tried them on in the fitting room and they were nicely lit and clean. We were greeted at the register and also informed on their rewards program, which I appreciated. Due to me being a loyal rewards shopper in most places I shop. Exciting! Told to have a great day and we enjoyed our first experience @Uptown Cheapskate Rockville. Thank you for a smooth process and not to mention neat and organized.

This is a great store! I saw so many name brands for unbelievable prices. Clearance rack had Fashion Nova, Victoria’s Secret PINK, Forever 21, H&M for $1 to $10 + buy one get one free! I bought a beautiful pair of Nike running shoes for $27. Saw Yeezy shoes on the wall, Jessica Simpson, Gucci, Michael Kors clothing, bags, shoes and more! I love it. You never know what brand they’ll have next. Had a great experience.

I hadn't been there before today. But on my way home, I decided to stop and I'm so happy I did!  This place was amazing, organized and pricing was extremely fair! Clothes for everyone, no matter what your style! You can't just pop in and out though... you'll need at least 45 minutes to browse! I'll definitely be back!

I went in to sell and was really impressed by the store. I sold a couple of items and used it as credit to buy under Armour shorts, Nike sports bras, Birkenstock sandals, Lululemon skirt. I was surprised by brands they had and prices they sold for. Store employees were very nice and professional. I definitely recommend this store and will visit again.

The employees here are fantastic 5 stars to them. The worked non-stop and were clearly so busy. The manager did an awesome job dealing with a difficult customer - cudos to her! The manager was so respectful to the customer who was being incredibly sarcastic and rude to her for no reason. They took almost all the stuff I brought and it was a lot. Especially Lululemon.

Only 4 stars for a few reasons: truly does take a very long time (dropped off at 2:40pm and pick-up a little before 7pm) it might be better if you live close by and can go home instead of wandering Rockville for so many hours! I was super surprised to see that they didn’t take my Aviator Nation sweat set. My guess is bc the logo was faded but that’s part of the style (as seen on the AN website).

Overall - employees are great, working non-stop, super helpful, very polite, and this place is so busy so that clearly says something! I’d recommend coming.

Update: I visited as a seller and here was my experience. I arrived on a Saturday around 2pm which I don't recommend bc it's very busy but that was the only time I had. When you enter the store, the seller area is immediately on the right. There were two people managing this area and they were very professional and quick to process everyone in line. You enter your info into an iPad, leave your stuff, and they give you an estimated time. They will call you when they are ready and you have to return an hour before closing to check out. My time estimate was 4 hours and it was very accurate.

They took 5 out of 19 things for $26 cash ($32 store credit). 2 Athleta full zip sweaters, 2 Uniqlo jeans, one pair casual flats. They don't pay as much as Reddz but Reddz passed on all of these things. I've also had these items posted on Poshmark forever so I was ok with parting with them as I just wanted to clear my closet. Make sure to set your expectations and not take anything you will regret giving.

The people in front of me got $75-100. My stuff just wasn't trendy enough, which is true 😂. You have to have the brands listed on their site in good quality or very trendy.

I like the process and was happy with my experience but the store is too far for me to return often.

Original: This place is so organized! I visited on a weekday so it wasn't busy but I was so impressed with how easy it was to browse through the shop. Everything is arranged by size and color. The styles skew younger/casual. I saw some North Face, Lululemon, J Crew, etc. I would consider the condition to be good (not like new or excellent). You can definitely tell the clothing is used but everything is clean and decently priced.

Good 2nd hand clothing store with a lot of very good clothes in nice condition at good prices. Customer service is good, store is clean with dressing rooms in the back, there is a good clearance rack and they have a program you can sign up for to get discounts and promotions.

Meh. I went there today and I didn’t see anything of interest and I felt the prices were kind of high. I wasn’t impressed.

For starters, these people will put customers through a lifetime of inconvenience simply to view items, only to offer not even a fraction of what it's worth.  Cheap is the right name for this business.

I brought in several designer brand items and fast fashion items, they only took 2 designer brand items for very little money. Having some issues with previous experience.
Update: Jose intervened quickly. He took the time to listen to my issue, provided a fair resolution, and ensured I left satisfied. I appreciate his professionalism and excellent customer service.

This is a really nice store - well laid out and tidy, lots of staff, pleasant music.  There weren’t plus sizes represented and when I asked the staff if they had heard of any other thrift stores in the area (I’m new here) that might sell them, they were polite, then laughed about my size in Spanish as I walked away.  It was unkind at best, cruel at worst, and I didn’t have an expectation just a question. Consider being kind… even if you don’t like how people look.

I believe employees are sleep deprived and not thinking clearly. I brought in some items and they were interested in only two of them. Fine, no problem, until they offered me four dollars each item which were brand new and valued approx $85..  They really need to take a nap and start over. They cannot expect people to just give items away, but then again, expect they do. Bye!

Selling stuff:
●This place definitely isn't consistent with what they take. I took in just a box of random clothes I didn't want and my friends old clothes in there too. I didn't really look at her stuff. Though I did know I had new mall brands, never worn, with tags in there. Cute stuff, not old lady stuff. But as I walk around they have universal thread and wild fable lol and pants with noticeable wear and damage.

Buying:
● I don't think thoroughly look though everything they take. Which makes me feel like they didn't completely look through that box I talked about previously because I brought some items and found an apple charger in the bag I bought once I got home and went through the pockets. If they looked through it, why wouldn't they return the items when the person came to pick up their offer. Or notify the person they left their changer and take it out the bag? So  I highly doubt they look through everything. What if that was someone's wallet. It's the only inside pocket in the bag.

●Like I said, I understand they have to buy it for a couple a bucks in order to make a profit when they sell it. BUT the pricing isn't consistent. Why did I find universal thread jeans that were the same price as Zara, PacSun and Altard state jeans? If they're going to sell target and walmart brand stuff, it should be cheaper.

Service: Was ok, not super hospitable or attentive, but not horrible.

I went to go sell some clothes and shoes. 2 pairs of shoes , one was a pair of Nike Roshe, and another was Hurache. They took neither of them. I don’t get what they’re looking for. I would’ve thought they’d at least take the Hurache’s, which weren’t worn much.  Don’t waste your time trying to sell to them.
They have nice clothes though, most of which are name brand to shop from. Most of which are reasonably priced, for the few times I’ve shopped there.

This was my first time going here and never again . I went in around 2pm , I was greeted and told how the process was going to be . Not one staff member told me that the type of bag I brought into the store was prohibited. The sign it’s self said “no trash bag “ , it doesn’t specify what kind of bag we are to bring the items . I came back around 4:30pm and saw that  my bag  was damaged , when I spoke to the manger she told me there was nothing she can do . I myself try to clean my bag and fix it but I couldn’t . The manger try to claim that they cleaned it but no one noticed the damages nor the marks until I brought it up ! It’s unfortunate that my bag got damaged and now I have to get it fixed. Just note to self ask question before leaving you items because the staff won’t explain every detail .

Hello Sandra , I'm sorry to hear our pricing did not worked for you but we completely understand if you were not satisficed with the offer. We price each item instore about a quarter to a third of its retail value and from that price point you receive 25 to 35% of that price. I hope this clears up more on how our break down for payout works.  

This location is not professional. They misrepresented the time frame- their estimate for the wait. It was in excess of 4 hours and 2 were "quoted". I was told "oh yeah you're right up, 30 min." multiple times. The the past I've seen them buy my items for $3-4 and then resell the very item they bought from me for $29. This place is not honest or professional. The manager is spoke with offered no solutions. She just kept saying we can't do this to everything clearly showing no interest in working with a customer/seller. So I had her pack my items back up and will take my business where it is valued.

Hello Megan , I'm sorry to hear this is the experience you had at our location. This is defiantly not the service we want to provide to our customers. We will use this review as a training moment to our staff to ensure we stay true to our estimated wait times. 

Definitely the worst experience I’ve had selling at any uptown location. The service was so incredibly slow.

When I came at the middle of the day, I was told the wait time was 2 hours or less. I left my clothes and called back 2 1/2 hours later when I still hadn’t heard anything. They said they would be done in 30 minutes or less, so I made the 20 minute drive from my house. When I get there and wait to talk to someone after about 10 minutes, they told me that it was going to be ANOTHER 25 minutes, and I was assured it would be no longer than that. I wait the full 25 extra minutes and still no progress. I could literally see my clothes, already sorted, on the counter waiting to be sold. There were 4 employees working behind the counter.

Not worth it.

Went to sale and left the box of course 3 hours later they sent a text and go back only to be told they are not taking women’s stuff because they are overstocked… that information would have been appreciated at drop off, I would think they would know what they need..

Worst experience ever. Don’t accept trash bag with clothes and always change the time for accepting the clothes. Bad service as well

Refused return of a clearly defective pair of shoes!
I bought a nice looking pair of shoes and when I got home and walked around, one shoe let out air and made an awful sound.  Even though they acknowledged they sold me a defective product, they refused to e return and embarrassed me in the store implying I was scamming them.  Owner was in the back and refused to talk to me and had his kids tell me it was policy.

better off reselling on depop/poshmark, or DONATE. waste of time coming here. offering people amounts that can’t even buy a mcdonalds meal after waiting hours.

Overpriced, low paying offers, and money for returns turns into store credit. Only got 150$ for 6 pairs of quality shoes and a basket w clothing. Will not be returning

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with us. We do have a policy here instore where we do only accept items in Reusable bags, bin , baskets or boxes no trash bags or paper bags. All the items that you see in the corner are donation which is why we don't accept anything in trash bags because we would hate for your items to be mistaken for donation. We are not a donation center so we do not accept walk in donation but we do work with a small donation organization who comes in and picks up our donated items. we offer donation only for our customers who have brought items to us to sell but we were unable to take in due to either styles or condition so instead of lugging it back home they have the option to leave it here and donate it. I hope this clears any questions you may have. Feel free to call the store at 301-762-1089 if you have any other questions. 

I came in to sell my clothes as I was doing my annual cleaning out my closet. I brought my clothes in a trash bag just so I could carry it better. I was told that I couldn’t use the trash bag to sell and that it would have to be in a “different” or usuable type of bag, yet in the corner of the store there where trash bags filled with clothes. I asked the woman who told me I couldn’t use my trash bag then what are those and she said those or clothes that people decided to donate if it didn’t sell. Since I had already driven to this location over and hour I was ok with just donating. Then I was told we don’t take donations. Then they wanted to charge a dollar a bag for their bags that they had.  Please make this make sense. Additionally there isn’t anywhere on the website that states what bag you can use to bring it in to sell. Highly disappointed and a waste of time

Hello Carlos , I’m sorry to hear you were unsatisfied with the offer . The way our price point works is we price the items about a quarter to a third of its retail value and you are offered 25 to 35 percent of the selling price point.  
We understand our pricing is not for everyone but we appreciate you bringing in your shoes for us to make you an offer . 

I brought in brand new new balance 1906 and 237. They retail for 169.99 and 80.99 respectively. They took an hour to appraise and offered 40 dollars cash which is a complete slap in the face and a disgusting low ball. They definitely live up to their names of cheapskates and if you check reviews they have scammed multiple people with sells. Bad business overall from them won’t ever sell or shop here.

I drove all the way here based on the hours listed for "buying" on the website, and I called before I came, only to be told that they stopped accepting buys half an hour earlier because they were busy and had a lot to process. That is NOT how you run a business or give customer service. If you have something published online - honor it.  I'd give zero stars, I won't be returning and will find somewhere else to sell my brand new shoes and designer handbag.

I brought in over 20 fashionable almost-new dresses & shirts that were in current season to sell. They made me wait hours & took one look and rejected everything because they were overstocked on those items. If they had a set of certain items that weren't being accepted they should have let that be known at check in. If you must go--call and ask what they are not accepting before you waste your time!

THEY STEAL!!! I sell my clothes with these guys for quite some time but the Rockville location, the employees are liars and thieves. I come back for my items to see how much I can get back in return. I must’ve gave them about 30 items and they only managed to take three items, for only $17. I look back in my bag and noticed there were also a few items were missing. I called them to have them double check to see if they mistakenly donated them, they said they’ll check with management and give me a call back. Never called. I called them back and asked to speak with their manager, had me on hold and they hung up. Please go there at your own discretion. Keep track of your things

Wasn't greeted when coming in, but the woman in front of me was. Never asked if I needed help, but had no issue helping other customers. And every aisle I was in just so happened to have a worker fixing or checking on something. I'm sure it's obvious what color I am lol. And I've also been in enough stores to know when I'm being watched/followed. At the end of the day, I got my things and left, though maybe I shouldn't have. Cute clothes, but not sure if I'm comfortable going back. Also, at the checkout one of the associates let me know a shirt I was buying was final sale. I didn't think much of it until I got home only to realize it had a hole in the collar. What's worse is that I watched her look over my clothes before putting them in my bag.

Hello Olya , Thank you for selling to us and sharing your experience. We have a no Trash bag policy in place which does not allow us to receive any items to look through in trash bags. If you don't have anything else to transfer your items in , we recommend our reusable tote bags but it is just an option. Since we are walks in only the wait times does differ depending on the day and how many customers we have ahead of you. We price the items in store about a 3/4th of the retail value and you are receiving 25-35% of what we are able to price the item in store for. I'm sorry to hear your experience with us was frustrating but i hope this responds helps clears things up for how our process works.  

It was a frustrating experience. I brought in a bunch of brand new clothes, but they wouldn't accept them in trash bags because they said they tend to break. I assumed they'd transfer them elsewhere for processing, but they literally just moved them a few feet. Instead, they suggested buying their tiny $1 bags. It felt like a big scam. They only take branded items in brand new condition and offer very little for them. I'd recommend just donating the clothes to people who really need them or selling them online. You give them nice clothes, but then they make you do extra work by changing the bag and waiting for an hour to get your cash. Plus, they're reselling your clothes at almost regular store prices. Bad business. At least make the experience for people who donate clothes pleasant, since you’re paying a tiny fraction of the item price for it.

Not worth the hype. I went in with a pretty open mind and not expecting a huge payout because at the end of the day, it’s a business trying to make money off of other people’s used clothes. I took about 50-60 pieces in to be appraised, including brand new jeans, handbags, and shoes with original sales tags still attached. Most of my items were from their “preferred brands” list. It took an hour for them to look at my stuff (not bad) and I was offered $3 (or $3.75 store credit) for one item. When I asked if they could donate the rest they told me that I had to give them my reusable bags that I took my clothes in with. I declined and I’ll donate them myself. While I was there I browsed the store and the prices for used clothes wasn’t a great deal. The associates working there were nice, but that was the only upside. I’m giving one star because I don’t think it’s worth the gas money or time if you are going to try and sell.
