The Ann Arbor Thrift Shop is a beloved community institution in Ann Arbor, Michigan, known for its high-quality merchandise and friendly, dedicated volunteers. As one reviewer notes, "it's a thoughtful way to ensure the store doesn't get overcrowded" by using a clip system to limit the number of shoppers at a time, creating a comfortable, cozy shopping experience.
Customers rave about the store's impressive selection, with one finding "four great contemporary novels for $4 total" and another spotting "a brand new men's Brooks Brothers dress shirt for $7." Reviewers consistently praise the "good quality" and "amazing" items they've discovered, from clothing and accessories to household goods and books. As one long-time shopper shares, "I have been shopping here for 63 years when the original store was on the corner of Ann St and 4th avenue. Love everything about it."
Beyond the merchandise, the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop is renowned for its kind, knowledgeable staff. As one customer notes, "the volunteers here are always so kind and lovely," while another praises the "friendly and kind staff." Shoppers appreciate the store's thoughtful COVID-19 protocols, with one reviewer commending the "covid aware" measures that prioritize the safety and comfort of both customers and volunteers.
As one customer eloquently summarizes, "Clean, friendly, often higher end items, well lit, covid aware, manned by hard-working, kind, dedicated volunteers who know what they're doing, organized, good systems for keeping new items out on the floor. What a resource for our community!"

What a great shop! I always find college towns to be great places for thrifting because the faculty and staff have good taste, and this was no exception: got four great contemporary novels for $4 total. Saw a brand new men’s Brooks Brothers dress shirt for $7 - if you’re a size 16 neck 35 arm, it’s there for you! Really nice ladies working there too. The tag system for limiting the number of patrons in the store makes so much sense - I barely had to wait more than 3 minutes.

This is hands down my favorite thrift store (which says a lot, considering I moved from a big city and thrift regularly). I almost never leave without finding something great. The clothes are high quality and the prices are unbeatable. The volunteers here are always so kind and lovely. Some people complain about the clip system used to limit shoppers, especially now that COVID restrictions have eased. But honestly, businesses can set whatever rules they choose—just like you wouldn't complain about waiting for a table at a crowded restaurant, a thrift store is no different. In fact, it’s a thoughtful way to ensure the store doesn’t get overcrowded. It’s a small space, and without this system, it would get way too packed, making it uncomfortable for everyone. Nobody likes shopping when it's cramped, especially in a cozy, local shop like this. If you’re asked to wait, it’s really not a big deal. I’ve never waited more than 10-15 minutes, and it’s totally worth it. Plus, the staff are all volunteers, so showing a little patience and kindness goes a long way.

Good prices, only drawback is that it’s a smaller thrift shop, the people who work here are friendly and kind!

Very nice little store. It's organized, has good prices and they are friendly. I frequent this store about once a month and always find something.
