Franklin's is a destination by itself! This was the first place we visited when we first came to New Bern a year ago - they were as welcoming then as they are now! Now, as New Bern residents, we shop Franklin's often - for our home, gifts, inspiration, or just a little "therapy".

What a treasure of a find. This is such a charming place and it has something for everyone. Great unique products, great local history products, just a fantastic place to find souvenirs and keepsakes or just something about local history.  Love it.

So yes, I broke something while in there. I  expected I would have to pay and did. Was the furniture guy surprised that I wanted the broken table.. yes! lol . I told him if I was paying, I was taking it home! I picked up the table yesterday and was in awe at the repair job. Almost 100%… amazing job! Told the lady up front that I wanted to break another so I could have a matching pair. I bought it ‘at cost’  to them (not that I believe the price was true at cost as I know the furniture business , but it still beat all other prices online!)

Every time I come here there is always something new. I am always excited to come here. And all the employees are so sweet.

You'll discover all sorts of old and newish finds here, and one of the best is Bill! His garden center to the left of the store has wonderful plants, plus you get Bill's expertise. He is happy to talk with a know nothing novice to a ready to learn more experienced gardener. Get your butterfly bushes now!

Cool place with lots of collectables, coins, antiques, dollhouse parts, vinyl records, and pokemon cards (if you are into that sort of thing). The staff here is friendly and helpful.

Place is great.  A little pricey but lots to choose from!  Staff is soo nice and friendly and will help you find anything you need!

This is a great antique shop.  Wonderful spot to browse.  Multiple sellers with booths.  You can take your time and you are sure to find a treasure.  I found a new shoe for my collection.  This one is brass.  The staff person was friendly.  They do have a restroom on site.  It was fairly clean.  They have a large paved parking lot, which is not usual in this part of New Bern.  Highly recommend if you like antique/flea market type stores.

Stop what you're doing and plan a trip to Franklin's! I've collected actors for the last 16+ years, been in oh so many shops - Franklin's is in my top 5!

The staff is SO friendly, offers to take your treasures up front so you don't have to try to hold everything. The shop is clean, and set up well.

Obviously in antique shops inventory changes but these dealers are good at what they do and find amazing finds!! There is true acntiques here and fun vintage items plus gorgeous new home decor/furniture and some food items. Oh and beautiful plants!! Such a great mix! Can't wait till my next trip, and until then I'll rock my Franklins shirt and represent!!

Always a cool stop. And I'm not just talking about the Air-conditioning... but they got that in spades too. Cool stuff, hard to find items, and plenty of things to send you down memory lane. Staff is always super friendly and everything is well laid out. And did I mention Air-conditioning.

Nice location with lots of different items catering to everyone. The furniture is reasonably priced and in very nice condition. My wife and I bought a lot of handmade soap and it smells so good. Very big interior as well, misleadingly large when looking from the outside.

Awesome! Very clean, fun, and we'll organized! The staff were very helpful, personable and polite. I got a great deal on some comics and bought a few Pokemon Cards as well as some vinyl records. Overall great store, would definitely recommend for people who like to explore and browse a little bit!

The best antique place in the area! Huge selection of good quality antiques and vintage items. Lots of furniture too. We furnished our guest room from Franklins… dresser, bed frame and nightstand.  New things coming in all the time. Prices are great. They will deliver locally. The owners are so nice! Highly recommend.  Almost forgot… they have a great selection of homemade jams for sale too. Always delicious!!

I was in New Bern visiting from another state, and took a few minutes to take a peek around. What a lovely, clean and we'll thought out store! There are treasures everywhere, displayed lovingly and with intention. I found the prices to be very competitive with online antique dealers and it's just a fun time to see what pops up. The couple closing up was so  accomodating to us being there a bit late and very helpful as we grabbed items. It's a must visit and we will definitely go again next time we are in the area.

We were looking for a new old fireplace mantle and they had exactly what we wanted. The owners were very helpful and showed their passion for preserving heritage pieces.  They have beautiful wood slabs and an eclectic mix of furniture, old tools, just everything. No doubt this place is a new favorite. We will be back.

I love this place, it's so nostalgic and has a little bit of everything from old stuff to newer stuff and plants. The family that runs it is awesome. It is also become a part of our family vacation tradition. We stop in New Bern every year. Love this little town

Extremely kind and helpful staff! While I was browsing the isles and looking at specific items the staff took notice at what I was looking for and directed me to other things in the store that I might also like.  An eclectic mix of vendors makes for an interesting time browsing what they have to offer!

I unfairly rated it low on my first review simply because I was having a bad day and just wanted to be home on the couch but my wife wanted us to go. On the 2nd visit. I really enjoyed their good variety of Antiques. Prices are reasonable and owners are friendly.

The women here are so sweet and definitely work with you! I have taken so many friends here and we never encounter any racism or hate! We look at the birds and shop for anything we need! Love the vintage clothes in the back, I can't even begin to tell you how many vintage dresses I have bought here! I love that there is so much diversity in here. They have jams, signs, blankets, furniture, etc. Just so much true southern hospitality. The vintage Jewelry is incredible here and they have cases full of some of the most beautiful rings! Definitely a gem of New Bern! Highly recommend going here and exploring!

One of the best setup and diverse antique stores in the region. Love going in and seeing the new items available. When packing my stuff one time they forgot a piece of the item I bought. I called and they held it aside and remembered about me when I came back the next week to pick it up. The people working there are sweet and are great custodians of the store. The nice love birds, sweets and soda for sale is a great added touch. There is no public restroom so be prepared to go across the street to the park if necessary. Overall love the place.

Thank you for your review. This is the first we have ever had a customer complain about the smell - normally there are many compliments on how well it smells. We burn one Thymes candle at the front of the store and that is all, so we will look into what it could possibly be that you smell.

We’ve came here a few times and we absolutely love it! Only thing I’d like to mention is the smell. It smells like someone has incense lit all over the store and it’s extremely overwhelming. Each time I come I get a headache from how strong the smell is. And I have heard others complain of the same thing in the store. Other than that, amazing store!

We used to visit the store allot and haven't been in the last year or so.  I enjoy looking at items from the past.  So many we had or remember. So,  my friend and I were doing a girls day out and stopped in.  It has really changed.  Has a new lay out. Different types of items for sale,  not just antiques. I enjoy visiting the birds.

We made a quick walkthrough while at the Great River Raft Race. Your typical layout with lots of different vendors. They have some local foods and then a sweeta bar up front which is cool and unique for a antique mall. Easy to get in, nice cool AC. Was a nice quick get away.

Was very crowded when I went.  Easy to get around. Prices clearly marked. Very friendly staff. Plenty of parking.  If you're into antiquities, you've gotta check this place out

This place has EVERYTHING you could imagine when it comes to antiques!  We could spend hours here and we usually do every time we come to New Been.  Highly recommend for home decor and general collectibles.

If you would have stuck your head in the door and asked, we would have been happy to let you carry around your small pet. However, you didn’t and you assumed something and missed out on a great time.

I didn't go in because first rule on sign was no pets. She is only 7 lbs. And we would have carried her. So if you don't want my pet you don't want me. Response  to your answer. Well it didn't say that on the sign, so I think the sign should say if you have a small pet and you carry them it's OK. Thank you

I’m so sorry that you thought our store was full of junk. I see you posted pictures of our antique carousel  horse, one of a kind vintage Frankenstein, and our vintage clothing area - all things that we are proud to offer exclusively here.

We pride ourselves in being one of the top antique malls around - and not having much junk. Hopefully you’ll visit again soon and find a few treasures!

A lot of over priced junk. If you are an antique mall fan this spot is a little underwhelming but it is a neat spot to take photos.

Thank you for the review! As you mentioned, we are an antique store. With selling antiques you sell pieces there were significant at a period of time in the past. Does that mean we agree with it? No. Does that mean it isn’t collected by all types of people? No. Therefore, those types of items pop up in our store every now and then but that does not mean that we support their meaning from that period of time - it is just a piece of history. 

You also mention that not everything is antique and you are correct. We rebranded almost three years ago to include antique, vintage and home and anything that falls into those three categories is in our store. We never once claim to be nothing but antiques. 

As far as pricing, we have found our prices to be extremely competitive if not lower than most other stores in the area and/or state.

I came here about a week ago with my mother and her friend
Shop was nice, decent variety, and there was a cute bird
However a lot of the things were overpriced or there was as also things just weren’t antiqued period, which is fine, but were heavily marked up

Now WHY im rating a one star is because there was an entire glass case dedicated to Jim Crow era memorabilia 💀
I understand these things exist, that they are out there and are auctioned off donated etc and it seems like this place also buys off the deceased’s things from other reviews
However to be selling these types of objects to random people for a profit is EXTREMELY weird and just feels racist
There are museums and collectors out there for a good cause that these could be donated to INSTEAD OF making a profit for the owners

I don’t think I can in good conscious come back here because of this

UPDATE: OWNERS RESPONSE CAUSED THE RATING TO GO FROM A 2 TO A 1.  OWNERS CAN CONTACT GOOGLE TO HAVE MULTIPLE LISTINGS REMOVED. I HOPE THE OWNER LEARNED AS MUCH AS I DID FROM THIS EXPERIENCE. GOOGLE RESPONSES THAT ARE PERCEIVED TO BE FALSE OR VINDICTIVE CAN BE REPORTED BY THE OWNER TO HAVE THEM REMOVED.

Bad customer greeting. Customer service represents the store and the many vendors who pay rent and 10% sellers fee. We were walking in the store and talking about reproduction items while simultaneously looking at a vintage wood shelf at the entrance. Assuming we were talking about the wood shelf the employee stated, loud enough for me to hear, but to herself the shelf was not a reproduction. She never took the time or courtesy to clarify our comment content. I let the comment slide but it wasn't enough for her, as I was at the front of the store she moved the shelf and stated " let me move the reproduction shelves" for me to hear once again. I'm glad she took the time to audibly correct me for her misrepresentation of my personal conversation. As hopefully she felt better, I left defeated not for me, but for the vendors. One clarification question on her part would of solved her misconception, I would of made my $65 purchase for a tobacco advertisement, and the rating that represents the vendors would be higher than a two. The booths were nice and tidy, there were some reasonable prices.

We've been waiting for this since you left earlier today. First, the sign that is posted is clearly visible and in large print. I am sorry that you didn't see it as you opened the door. I'm not sure how it's confusing. It's clearly states:

We kindly ask the following as you shop in our store. 
- NO PETS.
I'm sorry you missed that, SOMEWHOW. It also clearly states no pets. You did ask permission, however you failed to explain that your dog has several issues - being nervous, growls at strangers, etc. This would have probably been an important piece of information to share with the owners while asking permission to bring the dog into their building. However, you failed to do so. 

Secondly, you are a brave woman to attack a child. Not only was she under adult supervision, she had at least 5 adults that were keeping eyes on her as she is the owner's daughter who was going into her space. She approached your dog (where NO signs were visible from the front, nice try though) with her hand down as she has been taught to do. Your insult that she as not taught pet courtesy is appalling and a large assumption. Quite honestly, it's also insulting. Your dog QUICKLY growled at her in a very attacking manner. There was no warning or your DH (whatever that is) warning and saying no or backing up. We were all present and saw it.  Which is HIGHLY inappropriate in ANY type of business setting, let alone an antique/vintage/home store. 

I'm not sure why you thought it was a good idea to bring your dog who obviously has issues with other people into a business with a large amount of customers. I'm EXTREMELY thankful that this was during the day where we didn't have lots of children and other families in the store as well. I think it's important to remember you are a guest in this business establishment and should act so accordingly, including your pets. Your dog should not have been in this building if you are knowing of it's response to people. 

I think it's pretty summed up in the fact that you were negligent in reading the sign and had an aggressive dog. We are just thankful that our daughter/granddaughter was not attacked nor was a customer because this would end up being a complete different conversation.

No matter what the owner/proprietor's reply or excuse, it will not minimize how we felt today nor change our review of this business On the door of this shop (at least on this date) was a inconspicuous sign listing rules, which we admittedly did not notice. However, a friend we were with later said that he saw the sign which, he said, read no pets/no large breeds. We are from out of town, but frequent visitors to family in New Bern. We love vintage shopping, and our dog is almost universally welcome to join us. Still, we make employees aware of his presence and ask permission to bring our doggy stroller into a shop when entering. We did so here. Our 10 lb dog wears a visible purple harness that says NERVOUS on both sides and his stroller has a sign that reads NEEDS SPACE..... these messages are very much more evident than the confusing business sign and verbal okay we received when we were granted permission to bring our dog inside with him in the stroller. Our dog was clipped into his seat and could not get out of the stroller. We made an entire circuit of the shop, had even made a purchase, taken the purchase to our car, and returned to shop some more. Later, while making our way to the exit  after completing our shopping, we were approached by a child of perhaps eight or nine. She made her way to our dog stroller with her hand outstretched, while my DH backed away as quickly as he could do so while inside  a vintage shop, saying "No, no, no" all the while. At no time did the child request permission to approach our dog, nor did she attempt to retreat after my DH warned her. There was no adult supervision of the child. Only after our dog made a warning growl, did the child back away. At that point the owner/proprietor suddenly appeared and begin to berate us, claiming "We love our grandchild too much to allow this!" This man will perhaps claim that the bad pet owners cared more about their dog than about a child. Not true. Our dog was at no time outside of our control and the child was unharmed. On the other hand, the child was certainly not under adult supervision, nor was it apparent she has ever been taught pet courtesy. She did not appear nearly as frightened as we were humiliated by the grandfather/owner/proprietor. Not a recommended shopping experience. Enough said.
Five adults watching a child approach  a dog without permission and doing nothing. Cameras trained on customers throughout their shopping experience without incident except the one described. A business owner blaming his customers for negligence. Interesting.

There’s no point on going back and forth. No one told you to check yourself and we have witnesses. I’m sorry you feel the need to attack a child on a Google review - who by the way was in absolute tears after this debacle. There were much better ways to handle this.

Awesome selection in Dirty Barn Vintage in the back of the store. Could spend hours there.

However, if you want a 5-year-old to tell you she is the boss, growl and stomp her feet at you, and then run to her grandma when you tell her she cannot talk to your kid that way, only to have said grandma tell you to "check yourself", this is not the place for you. There are plenty of other places to spend your money.

In response to owner below, the lady behind the counter told me to "check myself". Was I supposed to just take that? After her granddaughter was picking on my kid? No.

We are sorry to hear that you weren’t satisfied with your experience. However, as mentioned when you were in the store - we had not set up an appointment with you to come in and look at your items. Our buying process is different as we ask that you email pictures to us first and we go through that so that you do not have to bring everything in because we know that is a lot of trouble. When asked if you called the right store, you looked up the number in your phone and found a 244 number / which is not our store number.

There are several other antique stores in downtown New Bern that have better quality service. I recommend one of them!

We recently lost a member of our family and she had a lot of older stuff and some we got appraised for value. When we visited the first time, It was brought up to the woman at the desk that we were interested in selling some stuff and asked if they bought things. She said we would have to bring the stuff in for them to look at. Which is fine and I expected that much. So we packed it up a few days later and called them ahead of time and the woman on the phone said to come in around one p.m which we did. The woman who served us was rude and short and I am appalled to find out that she was the owner. She gave my mother attitude and made her pull things out of the box and my mother pulled a single pillow out of the box and she immeadielty said no. She refused to even look at anything. This is horrible business when we checked with you on multiple occasions and one was face to face and asked you if you were interested and you said yes. My sister told her that she had called ahead of time and was given the drop off time of 1 pm. The owner swore she never said that and was the only one there all day. My sister then gave her the number she called and the woman said that "wasn't them" and "people confuse them with other antique stores". So we left and when we got in the car my sister called the exact same number and the same woman answered and gave us the address of the exact building we sat in front of. She then refused to speak to me at all. This is horrible customer service and I do not recommend this place. .

I read your response to the review I left. Now I’m going to say I still do not believe it was my pocketbook that hit the chalkboard ( you would have to prove it to me by allowing me to review the video ) but that’s not my biggest issue with you it’s your rudeness and lack of concern for the customer. Not once did I raise my voice or talk disrespectful to you nor did I refuse to pay. I was however shocked at your price including your discounted price. I’ve been buying and selling antiques for quite awhile so arguing with me about this is pointless. It will not change my mind or yours. No one other than you ( the owners wife ) was rude to me yesterday. I don’t feel that I’ll ever visit your store again and I’m not trying to be ugly but you really should work on your people skills. Thank you for your concern about my welfare as I travel back to Florida though. I wish you had shown some concern yesterday for me instead of your broken ceramic Christmas tree. On a positive note one of your patrons did ask if I was ok. If you had shared the video with us yesterday ( you never offered video proof you just demanded money )  the mystery of what caused the chalkboard to crash into the tree could have been solved and we may have left with our 75 dollars in our pocket. Maybe or not but fussing and saying you’re going to have to pay for that. I JUST PUT IT OUT YESTERDAY! was not  necessary. I never offered any resistance about paying for it. The bottom line is wether I’m at fault or not a little kindness and concern on your part would have made this experience much easier on both of us.
