About This Store

La Tienda Vieja is a unique antique store located in the small town of Tularosa, New Mexico. The store's inventory includes a variety of antique furniture, dishes, and other vintage items, with the primary focus of the business on the owner's handcrafted wooden bowls, plates, and cutting boards.

As described by one reviewer, "Don is absolutely worth waiting for. The store isn't huge and there's not an enormous selection to peruse, but what is there is awesome. Don doesn't focus much on the antique side of his business at the moment and has chosen to concentrating more on making his FANTASTIC wooden bowls, plates and cutting boards." Another customer raved, "Fantastic place. Where wood is turned into art."

Customers rave about the quality and craftsmanship of Don's woodwork, with one noting, "His work is exquisite and everyone who has received one of these pieces from me has treasured it." The bowls in particular are highlighted, with reviewers mentioning the "gorgeous combination of hard woods and turquoise" and the unique inlaid turquoise accents that make each piece "something really special."

Beyond the handmade wooden goods, visitors to La Tienda Vieja can also browse the store's selection of antiques. As one customer shared, "I picked up a chair and a first generation Brownie Camera (ca. 1916) and both function perfectly and look awesome!" The owner, Don, is described as "very nice, laid back, and conversational," and he is happy to give customers a tour of his workshop where he creates his wooden masterpieces.

The owner was putting out the Open sign as we drove by. We love finding local businesses. He welcomed us in and explained a lot about his wooden bowls. One of his gorgeous bowls with turquiose accents will be headed back home to SC. I love knowing the bowl was handmade and meeting the artist. The building history was interesting also.

This is a local spot in a 120 year old building with great antiques and hand-made wooden bowls and other handcraft. If you are driving through Tularosa this is a stop I would highly recommend. The wood products are high quality at southern NM prices. I promise you'll be impressed (if they inventory).

My favorite place to search out great antiques. I picked up a chair and a first generation Brownie Camera (ca. 1916) and both function perfectly and look awesome! Don is the owner, and if you stop in ask to see his handmade bowls. Each one is unique, and he inlays turquoise into the nooks and crannies of each one...they're something really special, and they're on my Christmas list!
