Really enjoy the staff's attitude and friendliness. Mason and Sara are spectacular.  I always check the Ts hanging on the wall because whoever puts them up there has exceedingly good taste! Great deals and a public service mission to dress the needy.

I love this store. NORMAL thrift store prices, and different days they have extra discounts depending on the color sticker.  You could go every day and find something new. They also have a free table in front.  Everyone is very nice here. I hope they stay open forever.

If you, like me, have grown tired of walking into supposed thrift stores and discovering that they're actually boutique antiquity shops, walk no farther. This place is the best; the bees knees. Beautiful clothing at reasonable and affordable prices, daily discounts, helpful and charming staff, they've got it all. 15/10 have recommended to every friend.

I've only been here twice so far but it's already my favorite thrift store ! I really love their mission/values, which you can learn more about on their website.  The store is well organized! If you're looking at knick knacks for example, all similiar items will be together which makes browsing easy. They do color sales like at other thrift stores and purple items are free ! Infant clothes, craft supplies and fabric are always free. Guaranteed to find something neat here:) Oh and like others have mentioned, they play good music 🎶

This is my hands down my favorite store to go into. I have been going since the store was first opened. Hands down it's the best thrift store in Ulster County. The staff and owner are very friendly and there is always a great selection of treasures to be found!

I love this Thrift Store. There is always discounts on clothing and a great selection off non clothing items. Not very big but I still could spend a good hour there. The owner is so nice and I always have a delightful small chat about what I bought, and I always end up finding something unique like a novelty/joke can of Armadillo milk Even if I don’t end up getting anything I never leave unhappy. Hands-down among top 3 thrift stores in Ulster County. Friendliest staff, great selection, lots of new stuff weekly, great deals and prices, something for everyone. We got a free donut last time we visited! What more could you ask for?

This place might honestly be the last affordable thrift shop in Kingston! When I found out about the free tag color days I couldn’t believe it - would have loved this place when I was growing up on a low income. Also lots of plus sizes, which can be hard to find!! I’m in love.

This is my FAVORITE thrift store. Welcoming staff, great merchandise, excellent music playing. I almost always find vintage treasures worth paying “full” price for. It is also fun to search through the colored tags finding great discounts. It is possible to check out with a bag full of great items and not pay a penny. The owner is encouraging and doing great work in our community. This is an amazing business model that benefits so many people in so many different ways.

Stop by at least once a week.. sometimes more 😉.. never know what treasure you will find!!  chris and staff are amazing!

This is by far my favorite thrift shop!! I always find hidden gems, the prices are crazy good and the items are high quality. Not to mention the owner is so friendly and sweet. Sometimes I go into thrift shops and I feel like the workers are just staring me down the whole time but I don’t feel like that here. 💚

My new favorite thrift shop! I came looking for a specific kitchen item after failing to find it elsewhere and found multiples! Their selection is huge, the prices are amazing and the owner is so kind. I got an iridescent clear glass piggy bank from the free section on the way out as well and I’m in love with it.

I have never left a review in my life. Had to change that after my experience here. This was the coolest most chill thrift store with a supply of great clothes, accessories, knick knacks and do dads. What made it even better was the kind sweet owner who puts effort into your experience. Great conversation, GREAT prices. Anyways, you probably won't regret going here.

There is a new community thrift store in town, yay! Free to Thrift has just been open three weeks and is looking good! Great intentions for the community, I hope this store will thrive. Amazing thrift store. I found some jeans I needed and some treasures I love. I will be going back weekly because the prices are great and I love a bargin.

This is a great community resource with some selection of free items and prices compared with Good Will or Salvation Army and a portion of profits go to charity.
Clothing and items can come in any variety of state and standard.

The workers are very kind. They have a great selection of merchandise and even a free table outside that you never know what you’ll find! It is a “must stop” destination when I am in Kingston, I’m not a local. I wish the person that looks like the owner at the register was more welcoming.

What a great store with a good cause. Items are priced very well if you’re looking for a real deal. Childrens clothing are free and some colored tags are free (varies on the day). The sales girls are kind, although the owner? seems a bit overwhelmed with the process of going through incoming donations and isn’t welcoming.

Regardless, the store is worth checking out and they put free items throughout the day outside the store which is nice.

I didn't look through the clothes, but the home goods weren't cheaper than expected and lacked selection. Wouldn't return for the home items, especially with many nicer spots close by. They do have sales, which is a perk, but from my experience with local thrifts, it is not unusual.

I'm not sure if the person checking me out was the owner or an employee, but she wasn't very friendly and was pretty dismissive. Said an item "could" be free if it had a tag because it had been there for so long, but because the tag was missing, it was a set price. Seems silly to set a high price for an item you know hasn't been selling but also sillier to tell the person buying it and not be willing to negotiate. Also mentioned that if I didn't want it, I could buy it and put it out on the free table...? It was a bit of a confusing interaction.

Even with the free stuff they had sitting outside I was very unimpressed.

Only been here once, won't return, mainly due to the people who shop here. One woman was walking about sneezing into her hand then touching things, which is disgusting. Another woman slammed into me and didn't even acknowledge whatsoever that she had hit me (I'm also physically disabled, so had I hit the ground due to her behavior, things wouldn't have been pleasant for her). Most people moved about like inconsiderate zombies and it really just made for a bad time. Upon leaving my friends and I were hit by cigarette smoke from a guy just outside the open door. My only gripe with the store itself, is the book area. It's a narrow hallway, bookshelves on one side and wall decor on the other. It's difficult and tedious to try not to knock things off the wall, look at books and accommodate people going to the bathroom? and people also trying to look at books. I also didn't have the "welcoming staff" experience everyone else had. Based on other reviews, people like this place, so give it a try for yourself, especially if everything they claim as far as community/charity work is true. It wasn't the right place for me, but you may feel differently, you'll just have to see for yourself.

I’ve donated to Free to Thrift several times and have always appreciated what I thought they stood for — helping those in need. But during my last visit making a large donation, I witnessed something that really shook me.

While dropping off items, I saw a woman and her friend (who were nothing but polite and respectful) get treated with obvious hostility by the owner. One of them had some free-tagged items, and the owner stopped ringing someone up just to call her out in front of everyone. It was uncomfortable, unnecessary, and honestly pretty cruel.

Then, I saw her raise the price of an item on the spot after the other woman asked a calm, fair question about pricing. You could feel the tension. I don’t know their story, but I could tell they were going through something — and didn’t deserve that kind of treatment.

I used to feel good about donating here. Now, I’m not so sure.

didn’t think I’d share this, but the pain from what happened still lingers — not just in my heart, but in the way I now see the world.

I’m a mom of five. I lost my husband during COVID. He was the love of my life. Since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to survive — for my kids. We live in a single motel room. No car. No kitchen. No sense of normalcy. Just one day at a time.

A close friend of mine, a doctor and social worker, told me about a thrift store called Free to Thrift in Kingston — said they had free items and that the people there were kind. I was hesitant, but I was also excited. For once, I felt hopeful. I thought, maybe I can pick up something for my kids, something to remind them life can still be good.

While we were shopping, I found a few green-tagged items — the ones that were supposed to be free. I held them close like treasure. But then, the owner of the store stopped what she was doing just to confront me. She made sure to point out there was a “limit.” Her tone was sharp. Her eyes were cold. I felt small…like I was being punished for even being there.

At the checkout, my friend asked a simple question about the price of a robe she picked up because the item said it was 75% off and it was a robe. The owner didn’t explain — she snapped back, “Now for you, it’s $15.” Just like that. No reason. No kindness. Just judgment. My friend asked her if she was OK because she looked as if she was trying to hold in vomit - as if we were so repulsive that she couldn’t bear to complete ringing us up. I can’t even explain how this felt.

I didn’t speak. I couldn’t. I was too embarrassed. I felt like I was back at square one — a reminder that to some people, needing help makes you unworthy.

I cried in the car. Not because of the stuff we didn’t buy, but because for five minutes, I had let myself feel human again. And that was taken away.

To the woman who owns that store:
You didn’t know my story. You didn’t ask.
But if you had — you would’ve learned that I served as a nurse, saving lives. That I lost my husband. That I’m trying to raise five beautiful, brilliant kids. That I’m still standing despite the storm.

Shame on you for making anyone feel less than.

I’ll never go back to Free to Thrift. And I hope no one else in need has to experience what I did. If you’d like a REAL community thrift store — go to Fairly New on Fair Street about 2-3 miles down the road. You will not leaved disappointed nor shamed for just existing.

If I could give ZERO stars I most definitely would. I’m heartbroken writing this, because I genuinely believed in what this place claimed to stand for. As a Doctor of Psychology and someone who works in Social Services, my passion is helping others — especially those facing unimaginable hardship. I recently recommended Free to Thrift to a dear friend of mine, a former nurse who lost her husband during COVID. She is now raising five children alone in a single motel room, with no car and no way to cook meals. She has next to nothing, but carries herself with grace and strength that I deeply admire.

When I told her about this thrift store and how they offered free items, her face lit up — it was a rare moment of hope. I took her there, wanting her to feel even a shred of normalcy again.

While shopping, she found a few green-tagged items — which, as the store claims, are supposed to be completely free. But suddenly, the owner abruptly stopped what she was doing and walked over just to chastise her about “limits” on free items. No kindness, no explanation, just pure condescension. The energy shifted fast.

Then it was my turn to check out. I had picked up a Bedsure Snuggie with a 50% off tag. According to the pricing signs, it should’ve been $4. When I asked for clarification, the owner looked me in the eye and coldly said, “Now, for you, it’s $15.” I was stunned. No explanation, just venom — as if I had done something to deserve the attitude.

I calmly explained that I’d brought my friend because of the incredible experience I had the last time I visited. She stared at me, expressionless — not a word, not a flicker of empathy. I realized then that we weren’t being seen as people. My friend, a widow and mother just trying to survive, felt humiliated. She cried in the car afterward. I was furious with myself for leading her into that situation.

This owner didn’t know our stories. But she didn’t care to know them either. She judged. She targeted. And she treated two kind, grateful women not only as if we were a disgust to her, yet a burden. I have never been so deeply disappointed in a place that claims to be about community support.

We left without the Snuggie or the “outerwear” that she demanded it was (despite what the clothing company labeled it). And we will never go back. I will make sure none of my clients, colleagues, or friends do either.

OWNER WAS REALLY RUDE. I often time shop at free to thrift in Kingston and usually buy a good amount of things. I went in today and was buying some ornaments in bags - one of the bags had a green $4.00 sticker on it and when I brought it up to the checkout, the woman owner at the register didn’t even greet me she just said “I put a different sticker on this today” and when I said “oh, I found it in a pile over there” she scoffed at me, shook her head, and didn’t say anything. Then I said “if it’s not right that’s okay” and she said “yeah I’m definitley not selling it to you” and shook her head again. I am very dissapointed and embarrassed of the customer service. I would have been fine to not purchase it if it was wrong - but the rudeness from her is definitely deterring me from shopping there anymore. I even dropped off 2 big bags of donations while I was there. Not that she would know, but I worked in a thrift store for 6 years and would never dream of taking off a tag. Really sad that this is the reality of the situation. I hope she gains some compassion and happiness in her life despite the $4 sticker that was “changed”.

Took my autistic cousin in and the cashier woman was so rude, my cousin picked up 2 items of clothing which had purple tags so it was free, before we left we wanted to make sure it was free and the woman was very rude, bangin on the sign saying if you ask if it’s free then give her a dollar, giving us attitude. My cousin has autism and dyslexia so can’t read. Awful woman, mean

I drove 34 minutes to find this place is closed. I called a head and the voicemail didn’t saying anything about hours. Not uncommon for a New York business to not answer the phone directly. Saw about 6 cars drive in and leave the parking lot after looking at the door. If you’re driving further than a few minute I don’t recommend risking the disappointment.
