Nestled in the heart of New Paltz, New York, Nettle and Violet is a unique vintage clothing store that has captured the hearts of local shoppers. Owned and curated by the passionate Shabbat Rusciolelli, this shop is described as a "gem" and a "magical, hip, charming consignment shop" by delighted customers.

According to reviews, Nettle and Violet offers a beautifully curated collection of vintage and contemporary clothing pieces at reasonable prices. As one customer notes, "The knowledgeable owner is super friendly and looks out for her customers and consigners." Shabbat's keen eye for fashion and style is evident in the high-quality, well-preserved items that fill the store, including a silk LL Bean undershirt from the 1980s that one shopper was thrilled to discover.

Beyond just a typical vintage shop, Nettle and Violet is praised for its personalized, customer-centric approach. As Danielle Martino shares, "This is far more than a vintage shop. My favorite is when she tries to unsell me something when she knows it's not right for me. I have also tried to sell things here that she was very straightforward would not be a good deal for me. Gotta love a hard working honest woman with high integrity."

Customers describe the store as a "magical" and "charming" space, with one reviewer noting that an "empty former pilates studio has been transformed" into this unique shopping destination. Shoppers rave about the "incredible gems" and "treasures" they've discovered, as well as the owner's "passion for clothing" that is "infectious."

Nettle and Violet's reputation as a hidden gem in New Paltz has clearly spread through word-of-mouth. With glowing 5-star reviews praising the store's curated selection, fair prices, and the owner's personalized approach, it's clear that Nettle and Violet offers a truly special shopping experience for vintage clothing enthusiasts in the area.

I love this gem of a place and super gem of a woman who holds space for all the energy we show up with. She is a magician. This is far more than a vintage shop. My favorite is when she tries to unsell me something when she knows it’s not right for me. I have also tried to sell things here that she was very straightforward would not be a good deal for me. Gotta love a hard working honest woman with high integrity ♥️💯

Had the best time exploring this store! The owner, Shabbat, was so kind and her passion for clothing is infectious. Incredible gems at more than fair prices. I could spend hours in here. Can’t wait to go back.

This shop has a beautifully curated collection of vintage and designer pieces at reasonable prices. Love it for that boutique shopping experience. The owner has a very high standard for clothes she stocks, so all the pieces are in very good condition- I scored a silk LL Bean undershirt from the 80s that didn’t have a single stain or pulled fiber.

Owner Response

Blessings on your life Rachel Prince! May grace and abundance be your path. Miss you beautiful wears sparkling up the collection.

An empty former pilates studio has been transformed into a magical, hip, charming consignment shop filled with contemporary and vintage clothing. Curated by the owner, Shabbat Rusciolelli, whose eye for fashion and style is impeccable.

Have been both a buyer and seller here. After my things sold successfully I came back with more and the owner, Shabbat, informed me I could not consign more clothes with her, no explanation provided. I came back a few months later in hope of an explanation and she started yelling at me (with other customers in the store), followed by a rude email. I still don't know why. So now I sell my vintage clothes at the Antiques Barn on Main Street and Heir Vintage on Church Street, cash not consignment. Rock and Snow is also good for selling used outdoor winter clothes, In these places no one yells at me =)

Expensive used clothing; owner feels free to get nasty.

Owner Response

Hard working single mother here trying to make a living and create more beauty in the world. I deleted the last comment where I called this review a joke, “pearls before swine”. You should just know that these reviews reach actual people on the other end. I can’t please everyone. I do my absolute best every day to be kind. Sometimes I fall short.
