About This Store

Nestled in the heart of Saugerties, New York, The Well is a unique thrift store that has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike. While it may be a small establishment, this volunteer-run shop packs a punch when it comes to its impressive selection and unbeatable prices.

Customers rave about the incredibly good prices and the fact that all proceeds go back into the local community. One reviewer even called it "quite possibly the best thrift shop on Earth," high praise indeed. What sets The Well apart is its dedication to serving the community, using its earnings to support local initiatives.

The inventory at The Well is a treasure trove of hidden gems. Reviewers have uncovered everything from fleece overalls to winter clothing that can be purchased for just a ten-dollar bill. The store also features a "Free Store" section, where customers can find items in good condition that didn't sell, allowing The Well to maximize its impact and ensure that no usable items go to waste.

Despite its small size, The Well is praised for its organization and the ability of customers to "really dig" and find incredible items. The store's reputation extends far beyond the local community, with one reviewer describing it as their "first thrift store experience in this country" and praising the "cheerful and happy people" they encountered.

For those seeking a unique thrifting experience with a community-focused mission, The Well is a must-visit destination in Saugerties.

The Well is one of the best thrift shops in the country Prices are amazing Best bargains in town Staff are sweethearts & very helpful. I only wish they had longer hours but I understand, finding volunteers is difficult. You have to really dig but they are pretty organized & its a small store. Plus I have even found useful items in the FREE side of the store. Terrific!

Owner Response

Thank you for your comments. We will be open one Sunday a month starting in May. We have expanded to 2 Thursdays a month in addition to our normal Wed, Fri and Sat schedule. Getting volunteers is very difficult.

I absolutely love this thrift store. It is volunteer run and everyone there is so sweet. The prices are very fair and I’ve found incredible things there. One of my favorite finds was a pair of fleece overalls… so cozy! Next to The Well, there’s a Free Store, which is an incredible concept. It’s stuff that doesn’t get sold from The Well. Both are tiny stores but definitely always treasures to be found. I’ve been coming to The Well for years and it never disappoints. Thank you so much!

Owner Response

Thanks for the feedback and the vote of confidence. Our mission is to support the community of Saugerties. All our profits are donated back to the community, so while you are finding low priced unique items your purchase is helping others.

This was my first thrift store experience in this country, the volunteers were such cheerful and happy people. One of the pleasant memories from our Memorial Day weekend trip.

This is quite possibly the best thrift shop on Earth. It's tiny but packs an awesome selection inside at dirt cheap prices, like, bring a ten dollar bill for all your winter clothing needs. There's even a free section of stuff that's deemed intact but not worthy of selling, which helped me personally when I was homeless in Saugerties in 2014. On top of that, the staff (or maybe volunteers, not sure) are very helpful and friendly, and the money is legit used to feed people and help the community instead of attack gay rights or something like the Salvation Army does.

Owner Response

You are correct the "staff" are 100% volunteers that love coming in and meeting the community. It is a fun place to work which makes it a fun place to shop.
