I am sorry to read of the many unhappy experiences from people who consigned. However as a buyer I left very happy today after finding the perfect work blazer from Banana Republic for $23. Spotted many other cute and good condition pieces that were reasonably priced. I would’ve surely picked up a few more had I had more time to shop. That said, I still think management should address the many unhappy consigners who seem to have had issues consigning. It’ll be hard to keep the shoppers happy if your well of sellers runs dry.

Holy cow! What a gem we have in our back yard! The selection was really good and the prices were ok. Not great. You have to know what the regular price would be. This is not your mamma's thrift store. Expect high end and lightly used items!

Excellent selection of brands, some still with tags on them. Sometimes we'd end up returning retail dresses (tjmaxx) after finding better designs here! Great pricing and friendly staff.

Talk about getting an unbelievable bang for your buck! This store will make you never shop retail again. Instead of a Goodwill kind of feel, there are so many items that have never even been worn! I bought Gucci, Coach, Theory, Ted Baker - each for under $50. Of course, there are things like Louis Vuitton and Laboutins that I could never afford, but that just tells you that this store is for everyone and every budget.

Excellent place to find designer clothes for $40 or less. ( Plus the cost of laundering or dry cleaning -  Clothes purchased at Green Street are not ready to be worn. Cleaning is a must!)   Not the place to go if you are on a time crunch for a specific outfit.   Shopping at Green Street requires the patience of digging through racks of clothes, where it no two articles are the same.   With that said, if you have the time, your efforts will pay off.   In addition to the designer clothes, you can also find high-end shoes, pocketbooks, and costume jewelry.   If you wish to consign your own clothes there, be in mind that they have a 10 item minimum, and a specific list of designers that they will accept.

I bought two amazing dresses and couldn't be happier! One dress with tags was originally $198 and I got it here for $26!! I will be returning here ASAP

My wife loves this place. Great for 2nd hand designer clothing. The quality is usually very good. A large selection of woman’s clothing and accessories and a small men’s section at the back of the store. You obviously can consign your designer clothes and if they sell you get paid at the end of that pay period. Note your sell price - % off for the consignment

Love Green Street as a whole, but the Wayne location’s staff are not the most pleasant. The past two times I was there, staff were either negatively talking about their colleagues or talking negatively about customers. Not really professional and not pleasant to listen to while you’re trying to shop. They were really nice while I was checking out, and very helpful, but could improve by not talking negatively about their own staff.

As a buyer, it's a nice store. Some items are still a little pricey, but others are a great bargain.

This is a nice consignment shop with decent prices. But I'm 5'10" with a size 11 foot and can't ever find anything that fits my frame.

Kinda picked (but alot of selection)over due to holiday shopping.

Nice clothes and other things like purses and bags in good condition.

Always good to stop in even for deals on guys" apparel ... pretty good selection

I went in to sell some items..This is the first time I have been into Greene Street. When I walked in the front door, the women smiled and asked if I was dropping items off. She pointed me to the back of store.When I got to the back of the store,  I asked if I can drop items off and she said no you have to stay, it is quick 10 minutes. Looking at her reservation sheet (I wasn’t aware I needed an appt) I told her I didn’t call. She informed me I needed an appt. I was told I can make the reservation on their website. I mentioned to the women that I didn’t drive and it wasn’t easy for me to get back. She said she had someone scheduled and could not take me. This was after she asked what kind of Brands I have to sell. My guess is she would have taken me if I had Brands of her liking. There were no other customer there to sell their clothes and she mentioned “it’s quick”. Now,  a good business person would have taken a look at my items right then and there. Since in her words, “it’s quick” and there were no other customers. Poor choice in my opinion. I won’t return. Like I mentioned, first visit to the store. I have never had to make an appt and any other resale shop I had been to in the area. The shop was neat,  very clean looking and filled with nice items. I was looking forward to shopping Greene Street, however felt I was mistreated and will NOT return.

I was in PA for a few hours and looked up thrift shops near me. Several came up so I chose to go to Greene Street. The least expensive items started at $14.95 and went up from there.  I thought this place was a bit pricey for used clothes. I love going to thrift shops because you can find cool stuff for super cheap prices.  Although everything was organized and neat I was not impressed and left disappointed.

The pricing makes no sense and there is very little selection for plus sized women.

Great bargains can be found here, but they left the security tag on the J Jill sweater I bought. So, check your items before leaving. Wish I had.

Weird vibes when in this store. Their team seemed to be more interested in talking to each other than to the customers. It isnt offensive but it won't build business.

I absolutely love Greene Street and have been a regular customer for years. It is so upsetting to write this, but I truly feel something needs to be said. The past 3 visits to the Wayne location, the staff - store manager very much included- speak so negatively about other customers. It is so unprofessional, and honestly off-putting. They don't even try to be discrete about it. It has gotten to the point where I don't want to buy my items because of them. Why they would think it's okay to speak about their own customers negatively is beyond me.

Hi Alyssa, we are very sorry that you feel that way but as you clearly mentioned, all of that is fully transparent and  outlined in our policy agreement, on our website and anyhere else we can post it. We also have a reclaim concierge service. Also for most people they recognze their own items fairly easily and our store is highly organized by style. So given that this is all fully disclosed I am not sure why the negative review.  As far as our employees, they all work incredibly hard doing sales and intake in our stores. Im so incredibly disappointed with this consignment store and the way run their operations. Even though outlined in their policy I think there should be more attention brought to the fact that if your items don’t sell you have to go looking for all your items throughout the store like the strangest scavenger hunt. Oh! That you have to schedule an appointment for! Couldn’t tell you why they would even have employees at that point….  I’d pass on consigning your items here…

This establishment is incredibly unprofessional and extremely difficult to do business with. Some of the executive staff that works at the corporate offices are incredibly rude and unprofessional. They changed the rules as they go along and expect you not to ask any questions. If you challenge them in anyway, they will bark back at you with rude and threatening emails. I think there’s a reason why they’re always looking for people to work there and why the turnover is so high. There’s also probably a reason why they’re taking less and less items for trade and really just focusing on consignment. I would say that leads me to believe that they are not doing well overall as a business. I would steer clear and find a higher end consignment establishment that treats their customers like they actually care about them and that they value them. I know that’s what I will be doing.

Every other Greene Street location is superb. This one paints the franchise in a bad light. The staff here are rude, pretentious, and not helpful. Imagine bringing $5,000 worth of high end clothing here for consignment and then having it returned to you all crumpled in a bag when they reject it… this is no way to treat the very people whose items you need in order to keep your business running. If you’re coming to shop, everything is exorbitantly overpriced, so even basics are not affordable. I saw a pair of linen pants that looked like they’d been used for years… $38! You couldn’t pay me to come back to this location.

Consignment is a very subjective business, and we aim to take items based on stock levels and what sells best, to benefit both our business and our consignors.  We understand that Laura was able to accept more than the minimum # of pieces, and that you decided not to consign after all, based on your intake experience.  It is important to note that we do not provide piece counts at drop-off in order to speed up the process and avoid discrepancies.  We have not provided piece counts at drop-off for some time.

Our camera review showed Laura communicating our policies and your drop-off information professionally and courteously.  Although this is the case, we always look for ways to improve, and will use this as a tool to see how we can do better in the future.

While we are sorry to hear of your frustration, we understand that we are not the right fit for everyone, and respect your decision if you choose to consign elsewhere. We wish you all the best.

I had a very disappointing experience with Laura (or maybe Lauren), a manager, on June 18, 2024. My family and I have been frequenting Greene Street for over a decade, both as consigners and buyers, with a pretty high (90%+) acceptance rate for consignment. This location is all smiles when you go in with expensive, designer goods; I’ve seen it when we have gone in with Chloe, LV, Chanel, etc. Today I went in with some casual summer wear—all brands they accept, like J.Crew, Madewell, and Anthropologie. Laura was very condescending towards the get-go. When she called me back after all of my items had been looked at and tentatively accepted, she was very dismissive of the questions I asked about what came next, as their process seemed  to have changed a bit from prior times I consigned with them. The only time she perked up was when she saw I already had some store credit in the system and was able to tell me about the designer sunglasses they had on display. When I asked how many items she had tentatively accepted from me today, she was unable to tell me the number.

The lack of transparency and the extreme emphasis on the store’s lack of liability made me feel as though this was not a fair business partnership. Laura’s dismissiveness also did not help. I was shocked to see how much less helpful they are to customers they deem less valuable, in contrast to all the times I went in with my (very fashionable) mom. This was also evident in the flippant ways Laura chose to speak about all of the clothing they do reject—certainly not the respectful sorting process they tout themselves as having! I chose to take back all of my clothing and do business elsewhere, as I have no interest in getting all dolled up just to be treated with respect at a used clothing store.

I hope that Greene Street Wayne is able to treat all customers with courtesy and respect in future interactions. Until then I will not be returning, and I will be encouraging my friends and family to do the same. Even from the buyer side, their selection has been going way downhill, and they have gotten very greedy about pricing fast fashion items.

EDIT: In response to the store’s reply, it seems odd that piece counts are not provided in the name of avoiding discrepancies—if anything providing piece counts would help with clear communication across the board, so this tactic seems like another way that Greene Street Wayne avoids accountability. I still stand behind everything I wrote in my review and am disappointed to hear that Laura’s conduct was deemed professional and courteous by Greene Street Wayne. Best of luck in continuing to run business in this way—you’ll need it based on your recent reviews.

“Fish and cut bait” is how I would describe this operation. They lure you in as a consigner wanting to list your high end items, and then reject them when you don’t have original receipts. I brought them 6 LV purses/bags (all purchased from LV stores), and when I could not produce the original receipts (who has those from years ago), they rejected them. No one asked about receipts when I brought them in!  Also, they kept referring to me by the wrong name in their email correspondence, so they can’t even get the basics right.  Most high end consignment companies (like the RealReal) do the authentication themselves! It was a colossal waste of time and energy!  Go elsewhere!

Hi Macy, We are sorry that you felt this way at our store. Gateway Shopping Center is one of our best locations and the staff really loves their customers. Still, this is retail and we always strive to have great customer interactions and we will continue to do so. Again these reviews can be vague and we are never quite certain when the customer came in or who they interacted with at the time-which makes it difficult to improve. But nevertheless-we will continue to strive for excellent customer service. Consignment intake is often tricky-as sometimes what people bring may not be what we need, or what sells well in the store. They have an okay selection but the handful of times I’ve tried to give this place another chance, every single person I interacted with was super rude ): and overall the store just has really bad vibes... Definitely won’t be stopping by Greene Street anytime soon.

I just got home to check the authenticity of the item I bought and it’s 100% fake.  Silly me for not checking! versace can be authenticated online this Versace was fake in the wrong box.  Buyer beware!

Customers are always welcome to reclaim unsold items, but they must do so on or before the given Reclaim Deadline. Predatory business policies with aggressive staff. This place is absolutely terrible and I have never had such an unpleasant experience working with a consignment store. The business model thrives on the busy lifestyles of its consigners who “miss the window” to pick up their consigned goods. I specifically sought out this consignment store because they branded themselves as a reputable reseller for designer clothing, however the experience of using Greene Street to consign my clothing left me feeling scammed.

I consigned 25 items ranging from $8.95 to $275.00 and was told by the staff upon my consignment that I would be notified what did not sell and when the items could be picked up from the store. I was a little apprehensive of the cut Green Street takes from its consigners which ranges from 50-70% depending on the value of the items. A little less then half of my items sold and was paid out on 12/7/21, however my contract with them stated I had a reclaim deadline between 11/24 and 11/27. I went in the store sometime in January and still saw many of my items being listed for sale and did not think anything of it. After talking with Christine (Wayne store location manager) she explained to me that I had failed to pick up my items within my “72 hour window of time” so my items that were being sold in the store now belonged to Greene Street Consignment and were their property.

I am going out on a limb, but I imagine the predatory nature of their consignment model allows them to gain access to a large inventory of clothing and accessories that they “own” after the contract window lapses. They then sell these items, mark them down more aggressively, or possibly donate items for a tax incentive. A business model that is able to source their products and goods for sale at a next to nothing cost is bound to do well, probably why Greene Street has expanded into so many new locations!

I don’t always take the time to write such long reviews, but I felt that Green Street really wronged me as a business. Christine was condescending, rude, and spoke in a very aggressive and demeaning tone when I acted surprised that I could not reclaim any of my possessions I had consigned.

After being basically shamed for walking in to consign with items *on hand*, not knowing it was “by appointment” I guess I won’t be returning. A consignment store runs on consigned items, or so I thought- but the staff was incredibly dismissive, rude in their (lack of) communication, & seemed bothered by my mere presence in the store…never saw a retail staff walk to the back of the store & ignore customers before. Bad vibes city.
Had great experiences when they were in West Chester, but I am local to Wayne…you’d think retail wouldn’t be so cut throat after experiencing a pandemic.

Although our store staff do not have the authority to break policies, they do typically direct customers to contact customer service, as our corporate team are often able to make exceptions to policy and to see if anything can be done.

In addition, we want to take a moment to clarify that we do not charge a fee to reclaim unsold items if you wish to reclaim yourself, in person.  We only charge a fee if the store team is assisting with pulling the items.

I've consigned with them several times and it is not worth your time or effort.  I admittedly missed my reclaim deadline due to major personal health issues and tried to work it out with them and they were extremely rigid. They won't return my clothes to me.  As a seller, I am also a customer so some flexibility would be appreciated.  Without sellers, Greene Street would have no business.

Additionally, if you want your unsold clothes back, even within the deadline, you must PAY Greene Street to get your clothes back.

I recommend Poshmark if you'd like to sell as they have much better protections for sellers and you have the opportunity to make much more.

I've also shopped around in Greene Street and have seen clothes with holes, stains, etc.  I guess they'll be able to make some additional cash selling my clothes or taking them home... whatever they decide to do with them since they won't be returned to me.

Vaccinated person with a health condition very rudely asked to leave the store unless I put a mask on and their clothes smell like mildew

I walked into the location yesterday evening, there were two employees helping no one until a customer came out of the dressing to finally make a purchase.  This happened at least 10 mins after I entered the store.  No one acknowledged that I was there, asked if I needed help, etc.  I am not one that needs a great deal of attention when I walk into an establishment, but I would like to be acknowledged so that I at least feel comfortable asking for help if needed.  Will not be going back.

Very disappointed in my recent experience at Green Street. I brought 45 items into consign, expensive items and some even had the tags still on there. After wishing to decline my sale (my quoted offer was laughable), my items were put onto the floor without my consent. I spoke with the manager who was going against what she stated during our phone call, a week earlier. I picked up my items today and the employee was very rude, she dropped my bag on the counter and and stormed away. Needless to say I will not be returning here and will not recommend to family/friends.

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the resolution that was offered and with our policies – but we are happy to hear that the bag was indeed found and returned to you.

These policies you mention have been in place for over 20 years and are clearly laid out in our Policy Agreement that consignors sign at drop-off.  We do have a policy that Greene Street is not responsible for missing items;  however in the rare event that this issue arises, we do often make exceptions and offer to pay consignors via gift card, in the commission amount, as a courtesy.  We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with this.

In the near future, this and our other 40% consignment locations will be switching over to a buy/trade platform, wherein we pay you outright for all accepted items.  You choose the method of payment – 30% PayPal, or 50% Store Credit.  The issues surrounding reclaim of unsold items are alleviated with this method of payment.

While we are sorry to hear that you will no longer be consigning with Greene Street, we do understand that we are not the right venue for everyone and wish you all the best.

I first will inform you of some of Greene Street’s policies.  First, when you’re consignment is up.  You need to go into the store and find your unsold items.  If they cannot find them, they will look for a week.  Then if not, they can report it to them corporate office, but they are not responsible for lost or stole items.  So I went in, they sorted my items. Signed the contract, the whole beginning process was easy.  The time came for me to go collect my items.  They could not find one of my bags.  They asked if they should look for the item for another week (as part of their policy). I said yes.  I called a week later to see if the bag was found.  It was not.  They said they could inform their corporate office, even though they might not do anything. I said, I would appreciate any routes that could be taken to be.  I got an email from the corporate office saying, “although our policy states that Greene Street is not responsible for Lost, Stolen, Missing, or Damaged items, we are happy to compensate you in the form of a Greene Street gift card in the commission total of $5.98. Please keep in mind that this is a one-time courtesy.” I was not happy with this resolution.  I thought they would compensate me for my bag, not the commission amount, but that amount that they would have sold it for.  I also that it would be a visa/cash amount, not one to their store.  I decided to get the gift card anyway, since I did not want to fight with them.  I walked into the store, and there was my bag! I addressed it with the manager and she gladly gave me my bag back. I did not make a scene, although I would have liked to.  I will no longer be consigning there.

Greene Street offers our consignors 40% commission on all items sold during the contract period, per our standard consigning policies.  You agreed to this, in writing, when you consigned your items.  In addition, Greene Street paid your commission on all items sold during your contract period, despite the fact that one item sold after the Claim Date because you did not reclaim your unsold items.

All consignors receive higher commission via consignment on items that we price over $200.  In addition, three of our locations offer a buy/trade platform to date, wherein consignors will enjoy being paid sooner – typically within 7 days) – and will have the option to select either Buy (30% paid via PayPal) or Trade (50% via store credit).  This should help alleviate some of these types of issues, and we will be implementing this payment structure in our other stores in the coming months.

While we are very sorry that you have been frustrated, we have done everything we can to make sure the situation turned out as it should.  As a company we do understand that we are not the right venue for everyone and we do wish you all the best.

CAUTION!  I was told I would get at least half in sale.  I called before end of contract and the girl said that 4 items sold and I had at least 77.00 coming.  There were 2 items left to be sold.  I received a check for 22.74 with only 3 items listed as SOLD.  I called and the MGR could not explain it and said it went to headquarters.  They are going to send another 7.32.
I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Undercut consignment prices, ignored emailed request not to put certain items on the floor, placed uber-glue pricing stickers on soles on never worn designer shoes, NIB (that were requested not to be on the floor), “lost” the mint condition designer shoe box & replacement heel pads,  shoes had an odd patch of dirt on the sole (?!!!) albeit I had never even worn them out of the house & then saleswoman claimed she didn’t even remember “the missing box”.
1 star: can buy good stuff.
