I swear they have like everything - books, collectibles, vinyls, just everything. I enjoy how large the shelves are, it makes it feel nice and cozy instead of weirdly exposed. I don't think I'll be making the trek to B&N when this is closer and has so much more

A nice array of pre owned items. I have gotten some good deals on old video games and other oddities there. I keep buying old PSP UMD movies, haha.

Really love this shop. They have soo many options for used and new books among other things. I can find some popular books from between $4-7 which beats buying from Barnes and Noble.

It’s a great place to browse for awhile if you want to find new books to check out.

Clean and well organized store. I brought CDs in for cash or store credit and within a few hours they had accounted for them. Staff is great, Krys at Buy Back is courteous, helpful and kind. I recommend this store for buy/sell/trade.

I frequent McKay. This place is similar and you can find a million second hand books for incredible prices. I bought a couple new book sets for great prices too. I'll be back again and again

This book store is a true gem for book lovers and enthusiasts alike. Walking into the store, you can see a vast selection of books that span every genre imaginable. Whether you're looking for the latest bestseller or a rare classic, you're likely to find it on their well-organized shelves.

What a wonderful bookstore. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Friendly and helpful staff. Very organized shelves. Building is cool and clean. Prices are very reasonable and at the right price point.

Our favorite place to look for records, books, and all kinds of stuff that we probably don't need, but really want!

Huge selection of books, CDs, vinyl, Funko, and pop culture items from Harry Potter to superheroes to Disney. They sell a variety of entertainment gifts such as statues and collectibles to video games and comic books. Small selection as well of guitars, ukuleles and random instruments.

Prices are pretty reasonable and you can even find hard to get items here. Items can be used - they have a buy back program where you can get cash or store credit back for your items.

Thank goodness one thrift store still specializes in media. Great selection of books, movies, and games, with really helpful staff! Only complaint is that things aren't exactly in alphabetical order, but you'll want to browse all the aisles anyways.

This store may not be in the hippest area but this is the best one in the DC area! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable with reading trends. They also host book signing events - picture below is of my pup with the author of a popular webcomic on Webtoon. Loved getting this opportunity outside of a small comic book store. This location also has a small collection of movie props.

Hidden gem. A great place to shop or just walk around and see unique vintage finds!

A great used book and entertainment store. This place is really big with a wide variety of books, movies, cds, records, toys and collectibles. There are also comics and a limited selection of shirts and socks. The dvds and blu-rays are a bit disorganized but they are mostly arranged by genre and then alphabetized. Overall this store was great and I will definitely be returning when I have more time.

Everything from new, used, hard to find, and unique books, gifts, shirts, records, CDs, DVDs, from every genera. It is neat and tidy. Laid out orderly for easily to find sections; young adult, cooking, fiction, etc. There is a kids section with a little table for them to sit. If you are looking for a gift, this is an excellent place with lots of options, unique and otherwise. I will be a regular visitor. Update: Went to use a coupon and it said all used books buy 5 get 5. There was no small print indicating not manga but the manager refused that  used manga books were included in the coupon. Company needs to clarify coupons specifics.

Awesome place for great books and collectibles. You can also sell any you don't need for a bit of cash. Great collection of funko pops as well.

Come here with your child if you want to just hang they even have reading tables off to the left and big childs play area in the back.

Okay, this place is really cool! A HUGE selection of books for adults and kids, novelty t-shirts, games, video games and more! I could spend a big chunk of my day just looking around and browsing the never-ending book sections. I will definitely be returning!

New location and there is a lot to go through. I enjoyed my time and purchases from there.

It's really clean, well organized, and has tons of merchandise. The only downside is that it's all retail priced.

I found the selection better than any used book store in the area, many specialized titles.  I am subtracting one star for the lack of organization, what a mess.  Books should be organized by subject matter, not title.  Why are there WWII books mixed in with cook books... it looks like nobody has gone through the shelves in a long time.

A varied bookstore. Offers toys, clothes, guitars and other oddities. I was expecting a Powell's bookstore replica but this has its own unique quirks. I guess comparisons are the thief of joy.

The organization of the books on the shelf is a bit wonky, not going to lie.

Found so many used books I was looking for.  Great.  My kids love all the "collectibles" too. And found another bunch of books to read. Love hardcopy books and used is the way to go.

This is a nice shop with a lot of variety of selection. Some books seem to fall into multiple categories and so are scattered around the store making it a little tricky to find anything specific but definitely encourages looking at everything

Large selection of books, CDs, DVDs, memorabilia, games, etc. It's very easy to spend an hour or so here browsing. Clear signage throughout the store made it easy to find and discover new things. Since this was a secondhand store, I was surprised to see books selling at retail price. A bit disappointed that the book prices weren't as discounted as at other used book stores. Overall, it's a nice used bookstore in the area.

2nd & Charles is a large store with a wide selection of new and second-hand books, toys, CDs, DVDs, and stationery. Their second-hand book prices are reasonable, offering a cheaper alternative to buying new.

They also buy books, but offers are quite low—around $7 for a big box, regardless of contents. ( 7$ is kind of a sacred number to buy from you! ) Store credit is an option and slightly better than cash, but still modest.

Overall, it’s a good place to shop for deals, though selling books may not be very profitable. ( I'd rather give my books to charities or free book stands)

Prices are higher than I pay in other used book stores. The History section is organized by author, not by era. It makes browsing difficult. Overall, it's a big store, but I didn't find anything worth buying.

Not sure why this is a trend with 2nd & Charles but their Woodbridge location bathrooms were just as disgusting. So unsanitary. Aside from the horrible conditions of the restroom, the shop is super cool. I could spend hours browsing, unfortunately not as organized as their Woodbridge location was. Everything is kind of just in young adult and fiction categories and they don’t seem to really be organized in any way, should be alphabetized but it’s really not. Also they seem to overprice some of their books. I found a faux leather illustrated copy of Alice in wonderland that was priced at $15 but when I flipped through it I found the original Barnes & Nobles receipt where it was originally $9… found another random book that had a clearance sticker for $4 on the front cover yet they were charging $7 for it. Idk I guess just be weary of that. Sometimes they will ring up the wrong prices at the register too.

Unique store for sure was thinking it was a new type of Goodwill but anything but.  Had cool memorabilia for everything.  DVDs, records, Atari games, comics, books.  Pretty cool to walk around.

Over the years, they have increasingly had more new books than used ones, so don't come here expecting cheap used books. There probably won't be any anyways.

The buyback program is unreliable at best and a waste of time at worst, and most often. I can buy something from there, not open it (or if it's a book, lightly use it) and then take it back and they won't accept it. You also can't accept an offer online and have to physically go to the store everytime, even if they won't take anything (and won't call or text you to tell you they won't), so you might end up wasting forty minutes for literally nothing. Even if they did take anything, you'll get pennies on the dollar for the worth of your items. Just donate to the library please, its better for the community and you can get a tax refund.

However, when I took some card and board games in with all their components in tact they said they only accept literally new board games, like in shrink wrap, which is not buying used.

No matter, I thought, I can probably get a nice deal on games here if they are buying from people and reselling. I checked out their selection. Their selection is decent, not too bad. There were several games there that were not shrink wrapped so I must have missed a time when they did just look over the components and buy those used games.

HOWEVER, EVERY SINGLE GAME I looked up to see if the price was good was cheaper new online. Exit the room games were 5 dollars more expensive than at Target or Amazon, some games were 1 dollar more expensive. They cover up the original price above the barcode so you feel you could be getting a deal but they charge a higher rate than the companies that make the games. 🤦‍♀️

They had a great selection of books but new and used are all mixed together and the "new" book prices were often higher than the literal price printed on the book. It was ridiculous. I don't know who does their pricing, but this is definitely not a place to go if you want an upscale thrifting bookshop experience. It's basically barnes and noble with a few used things all shuffled in and in much less good order.

At least Barnes and Noble alphabetizes consistently (though their company kind of sucks).

So I'd say go here for a B&N alternative but don't trust what they advertise themselves as.

We took 12 boxes of books to be evaluated around 200... My personal library to be evaluated. Upon arrival, my husband was told to sign in. He didn't notice the sheet they told him to sign in on was a contract. They told him because of the quantity it might take them a while to evaluate. He wasn't worried about that so when they called back and texted a few days later. They told him he had to come in for his offer. We came in on our next day off ( we had dropped them off the previous weekend) they had disposed of all 12 boxes of books and given us $28 in store credit. He didn't know on that sheet it said he had to come in within 48 hours. The text and phone call didn't say it either. No one mentioned it nor discussed it with him. It was already very difficult for me to let go of all the books he bought me through our 21 year marriage. And then for him to realize they shipped it to their warehouse and gave us pretty much nothing for it was a lot to take. He was pretty much near tears and I cried. The lack of policy explanation is unacceptable. Telling people it's a sign in, and not signing away their property is bordering on scammy. He knows now he should have read the sheet they told him to sign in on. But he simply thought it was a sign in sheet. 1. Store policy should be explained at "check in" 2. Allowing people only two days to pick back up 12 boxes when you took longer than that to evaluate seems unreasonable, especially since we had to have our large vehicle to be able to pick it back up. 3. Warehousing the books you can't retail is messed up. If you don't want them fine donate them. However you warehousing them tells me they are retailable likely on Amazon vs one of your stores. So now, you have taken my items for free and are selling them without even communicating any policy about how this would all work. Bad customer service all around.

Their books selection has become super limited. They used to have a really good science and psychology section, not sure what happened. Organization is worse. Moreover the book prices are a lot higher than other used book stores. Seems like they prioritized new books + pop culture paraphernalia, which is fine but if you’re looking for book heaven, look elsewhere.

Beware if you leave your books at this place for BuyBack! In 24 hours they will take your books - doesn’t matter if you accept their offer or not, doesn’t matter if their email went to your spam box and you didn’t see it, doesn’t matter if the person that got your books didn’t explain anything!
There is a sheet of paper on the counter that they ask you to put the date you left the books and your name and explain nothing else, just that you will receive an email with an offer. I was on a hurry and didn’t even read the fine line because to me it was just a receipt thing.
I found their email on my spam box - that also didn’t say anything about the extremely strict deadline of 24 hours! - and went to the store to see what my offer was, since the offer is not on the email, you have to go to the store or call. I discovered that my books were gone and I had $7 of store credit- no option, no choice. Because I went there after 24 hours of getting the email.
I won’t even be able to get a piece of gum on this ridiculously overpriced store with $7.

Bought a few books from this place, after a few hours I noticed that one of them had a 2 or 3 pages missing. I went back and asked to return it, and a pissed off woman wandered up to me and asserted that “we do not take returns” but gave the option to “donate it” for “cash”. With a straight face, they offered me a few dollars to take back their own damaged merchandise and put it back out for sale. Appalling.

I've been to many Second and Charles and this was the worst location. Two employees behind the counter ignored me trying to get their attention multiple times to get the bathroom key and I had to wait for the one employee who was actually working to finish a line of customers. Another woman just before this had to have her husband come over and almost yell to get their attention to do the same thing. I found an video game item listed in a book if items for sale at a good price and when they finally found it there was no price sticker and then wanted twice what was listed in the book. When my girlfriend tried to ask where to find books and was treated like she was being as hassle and were unable to locate the books. For comparison as I'm writing this in the Barnes & Noble we drove to after to actually get the books she was looking for somebody walked up to us and politely asked us if you we trying to find anything with an infinitely better attitude and without us having to ask, twice. I don't intend to fault them for not having what we were looking as they are smaller for but the customer service aspect of how we were treated and seeking it it was abismal.

They don't buy anything from you if you are under 18. I wish I would've known that before I finished unloading all of my book's that I wanted to sell. They need to have some sort of sign outside saying that.

I called the store in the morning to ask about their buyback program and, based on the information I received, decided to drive in from Alexandria with a couple of boxes of items. When I arrived, I was disappointed to learn that the buyback program was already closed for the day. No one had informed me of this when I called, even though I had mentioned that I was coming from a distance. When I asked to speak to the manager, he agreed to take my items but did so with a less-than-friendly attitude.

To make matters worse, when I tried to use a couple of their boxes to carry my items from the car, I was told that I couldn’t take the boxes outside. This meant I would have to carry three boxes worth of books by hand from my car, which was incredibly inconvenient. The entire experience left me feeling disappointed and unappreciated as a customer, so I decided to leave. It's clear that they weren’t interested in my business.

This place has gone really downhill in recent months.  Their selection is significantly reduced, the prices are up, and the entire vibe is just off.  The customer service is now really bad.  What happened?  These folks used to have some pride in this shop.  Now it's slop.

This was the gem of the 2nd and Charles in the DC metro area.  I'd bought and sold here often, but am done with this location. We left this time without buying anything.  There's so much junk! Expect any items of interest to sell for well above market rate.

There's lots of empty shelves, messy displays.  Really poor selection in comics and manga, worse for vinyl.  Like 50 copies of the Dr. Zhivago soundtrack and shelves of moldy grandpa records no one wants to buy. That, or overpriced reissues.  You used to be cool, man!

It even looks a bit rundown and feels like Soviet 2nd and Charles now.

Don't bother to ask to use the restroom, btw.  Only the staff room works and they won't let anyone use it.

Very disappointed with their customer service. I took 3 boxes of books there (a variety of novels, fiction, non fiction, textbooks, some were brand new!) and received a text that the cash out had been processed.  When I returned to the store, I was told my entire order had been cancelled and everything was returned to me!!!  They “ claimed” some of the books were “ written in” or they were “overstocked” yet neither of these rules were explained to me prior to me dropping off the books. And I have purchased books there that had been written in/ highlighted.

I feel requirements for accepting books should be clearly stated and notification of cancellation should be better communicated prior to you showing up at the store.  I did not have containers to transport books back and had to individually load the books back into my car.

A very frustrating experience.

After waiting 3 days with no response then calling twice driving 30 miles each way to be told no with no explanation the small balled guy refused quality books and merch that earned big dollars at McKays in manassas. Don't waste your time they are overly critical of "used books" but advertising as a used book store. More concerned with pushing books a million Alabama based corporate agenda of low-balling patrons its no wonder they are going bankrupted...again.

Updated: They requires key to access the restroom. And the cashier said there is someone inside despite the fact that this is pad lock with passcode, and there is no one inside. This is the first time I see such a place. So rude.

Books, toys, musical instruments, pictures. They sell high quality stuff, expensive, bit seems good. I am impressed by the variety and quality of stuff they have here.

It's one thing to have false advertising, it's another to treat the customer like they are dumb. When I attempted to clarify the deal before purchase, the employee laughed me off and made it seem like I should have already known the answer before asking. I try to be reasonable in situations like this, but this is another level. It clearly says ALL Manga buy 2 get the 3rd free. It does not state whether it is box sets or individual books, just Manga. Needless to say, I did not make a purchase at this time and I will not be picking this company first when purchasing books in the future.
