A Quality Finish

This company took our Lane "hope chest" purchased 58 years ago (two years before we married) and restored it to better than new condition. The staff and owner are friendly and helpful. Our memories have been restored!

My family has a antique Victrola that was badly damaged moving from my wife's father's house to our home. Given that the mover almost completely destroyed the top and damaged the side, we were at a loss if it could be recovered. It has a deep sentimental value for my wife so we decided to see if the Victrola could be put back together. A Quality Finish did an excellent job in restoring the damage to the antique as well as childhood memories for my wife. To those families looking for an honest and professional shop for their furniture look no further. Very recommended

I attached the wrong photo here - tech error - and will attach the before and after pic of the dresser I’m writing about as soon as I can. Sorry about that! However, my review follows: I brought an orangey-stained 100-year old oak dresser and a second-hand white Pottery Barn changing table top to the workshop at A Quality Finish with the goal of refurbishing it for my daughter who needed a dresser/ changing table for her baby. The dresser drawers needed some shoring up, a little re-gluing, and the handle holes filled. I wanted both pieces painted in a modern lacquer-type finish. What I got, was perfection! The crew treated this job like it was headed for the White House. Dowels were used for the hole fills. Perfection! The chest of drawers top surface was skimmed to a glass-like surface. They removed the felt from the bottom of the changing topper, painted it to match and replaced the felt. The paint cured to rock solid. Their advice was carefully considered and excellent and they worked within my budget. Their pricing was half what I was quoted elsewhere, though not cheap. I could have bought a pressed board dresser/topper at Pottery Barn for slightly more money but what I got from A Quality Finish was a custom color, solid wood dresser and topper which we hope will see another 100 years. My daughter and son-in-law were delighted. I wish I could give them 10 stars instead of the maximum five. The gentlemen and woman who work in the shop give top notch professional attention to their pieces and it shows in the outcome and in customer service. My only caution would be that if you choose a lacquer conversion paint, as I did, the piece could take up to30 days to cure and it needs to be aired out while doing so. They have a large warehouse space but I took my piece home early, so it had to air out at home. Well worth the extra time and attention to reuse/ restore/ repurpose this old piece with all its tender memories.I will add photos if I can get some tech help 😀

About a year ago, my family experienced a house fire nearly loosing everything. We were able to salvage a few furniture pieces, but they needed to be refinished due to smoke damage. The insurance company recommended A Quality. It is hard to put into words the trauma, grief, and frustration that comes with a house fire, but from the first moment I spoke with Joe at A.Q. his kindness and professionalism put many of those feelings at ease. The proficiency of the entire staff at A.Q. has been unparalleled to anyone else I have dealt with this past year. The staff has communicated not in days, but within hours with me every step of the way. They have been accommodating in ways that I thought no longer existed in customer service. All of that, has been a pale comparison to how beautiful their work is! My furniture looks better than it did before the fire! You would think my story ends here, but A. Q. actually gets even better. About a week after we moved back into our home, we scratched one of the furniture pieces. I called A. Q. to just asked if there was any oil I could use to soften the scratch, and Joe said to bring my table back in and he would fix it for me...what company has that level of kindness? When you lose so many things that created your life; any thing that can be salvage is more than just furniture, it is the soul of your home. I very highly recommend A Quality Finish (Manassas, VA) for any furniture restoration anyone might require or be contemplating. My recommendation is based on the very impressive workmanship Joe Stephanian brought to bear on the restoration of a very large number of severely damaged items. We had a house fire in July 2021. Although the fire department was able to prevent complete destruction by fire, water and smoke damage was extensive. As a consequence, a large number of pieces of furniture required restoration. These included an antique 19th century French provincial armoire (which required intricate understanding of that period’s furniture construction techniques), a pedestal dining table (with a leaf extension insert), an antique Singer sewing machine table, a Cherry wood living room ensemble from Cambodia, a Scandinavian teak “Gentleman’s Chest,” and a Vietnamese armoire, among a number of other pieces of furniture. The quality of the restoration work absolutely perfect on every single piece. Moreover, Joe was very creative in offering ideas pertaining to color of stain and the sheen of the finish, with very careful attention to harmonizing restored items with any existing furniture, and always in close consultation with us. My wife and I have been totally amazed at the skill and professionalism of A Quality Finish. My bottom line is this. Based on our experience, I think you can have A Quality Finish restore your furniture with 100% confidence the outcome will be as good or better than you can expect from anyone in this area.
