I found Gates Antiques while searching for a specific American artist of the late 19th century. Jay and his staff were very helpful and timely in responding to multiple questions that I had on the piece and provided high resolution images of the painting to confirm the condition and authenticity of the work. Their communications were excellent. I subsequently purchased the piece. They did a great job of carefully packing and shipping the item (and provided tracking information) to my out of state residence. I received the painting today! Based on my experience, I would recommend them highly.
Thank you for the kind words. It was a pleasure to work with you.

I was inquiring about a desk that I was trying to sell, and Jay was so helpful in telling me more about the piece that I had. He was so kind and informative. I really appreciated the information and the fact that he was so knowledgable and willing to help me.

Gates Antiques refinished my dining table, made an extra support leg for the middle to support the weight when fully extended, and reglued my chairs, all in time for the Thanksgiving festivities. Their work was professional from start to finish. I can't say enough good things about the quality of their work.
It was an honor and a pleasure to restore your pieces.

The quality of their workmanship and attention to detail is fantastic. Jay Gates is an artist when it comes to restorations. Customer service is personal and professional. The beds I had refinished were done in a timely manner considering the high demand for their services. I highly recommend them.
Thank you for the kind words. It was an honor to restore your beds.

I was recently gifted a three+ century old blanket chest. The chest is amazing but as with anything of that age it needed a little work. There were two concerns I noted that I wanted addressed so I reached out to Gates Antiques since they were just down the road from me and were so highly rated. A decorative piece was missing on one side that I wanted replicated and there were a couple of loose structural joints. Jay looked the pieced over noted one other issue with original wrought iron hinges. What I really like about Jay (and later his mother who I got to talk with when I picked up the chest) is they have a passion for antique furniture. Jay was great because he respected the history of the piece and didn't try to upsell me in anyway. He did exactly what was needed no more and no less. The reproduction decorative piece they made is perfect. It is almost a clone of the original and only upon close inspection would reveal itself to not be original. Structurally the chest is now solid. Jay's team did a great job, delivered on time and were very reasonably priced for their skillset. My blanket chest is now ready for another 100 years. The other thing I like about Jay and his mother was they willingly shared their knowledge. Both of them gave me information that I was unaware of despite researching what I had prior to taking it to them. In summation if you are looking for antique furniture or need some furniture repaired I highly recommend Gates.
Thank you for the kind words. It was a joy to work on your piece.

So impressed with this shop. I had been trying to identify a table for many years - to no avail - I found a YouTube video from Gates Antiques, then took a chance and sent them an email. I fully expected them to do what most antique dealers do, either ignore me or tell me that I need to take it to an appraiser. This shop was so different. He took the time to respond to me and give me all the information I needed to make a decision on my table. FOR FREE. They do not know me, they aren’t even in the same state, yet they took the time to actually HELP me without anything in return.
You were a pleasure to work with.

In this day and age it's exceedingly rare to encounter a businessman who takes a personal interest in a customer dilemma. But Jay Gates is one of those men. A family heirloom spinet desk of mine had been water damaged and was in the process of being restored by another business when the restorer/owner died unexpectedly while working on my desk. The desk was only partially finished and in pieces when I reclaimed it. I contacted Gates Antiques right away, shortly before Christmas, and Jay said to bring it right in. Not only did he complete the restoration beautifully, but he prioritized the work since I had been without the desk since August. It was delivered today, magnificently restored. I'm forever grateful to Jay and his employees for stepping in and graciously taking over this project. I cannot recommend Gates Antiques too highly.
It was our pleasure. Seeing you so happy today made it all worthwhile.
