Absolutely love this place.  Incredible inventory and great prices.  They are always getting new stuff and changing and rearranging their displays.  The employees are very friendly and helpful too.

We shop here frequently and have bought several like new upholstered pieces and home decor. It’s also a great place to find seasonal decor.

I have been in this shop off and on for 20 years.   My mother and her friends shopped here. (Old Williamsburg). I just bought two camel back sofas at the main store and two just magnificent MCM teak chairs at new, second location.    This is not Goodwill or a thrift store.   We are delighted with our purchases.   The teak chairs are a house warming gift.    They will have these chairs forever.

Very high-end consignment shop... the establishment had a lot of great choices....

Very extensive selection of quality resale furniture that will make it easy to decorate any home.  The staff are nice and the inventory is always changing.  You just got to go and at least look even if you do not have something you are shopping for!

We've been enjoying the Velvet Shoestring for more than 15 years, both consigning and buying. The selection is always great with the fast turnover in inventory, the delivery guys are always on time and careful, and Mary Jo and Joanne are terrific. It's our favorite store in Williamsburg!

What an interesting consignment shop. Very high quality. Mostly home furnishings and accessories. Interesting to note that some items are marked with dates at which their price will be reduced. But, if course, you risk missing out on an item if you wait.and it sells before the price drops

Personally, not my kind of place because I'm not really looking to buy used furniture or knick knacks. However, for somebody that is looking there is a really huge selection of items here in all kinds of styles. This the kind of store that just keeps going and going going once you get inside. They do have a markdown policy based on how long the item has been on hand.

Always have great selections. Clean store and displays are great. Store very helpful. are pleasant and very helpful.

First-time visitor. Everyone was very pleasant and all of the pieces were presented nicely. Pieces' condition and organization was surprisingly high. I've never seen a consignment shop with such well curated items.

This shop has a very nice,  good quality selection of furniture and home decor items at reasonable prices.  Good staff and delivery personnel. We've bought furniture from them and have been very pleased.

This place is da bomb! I try to stop in at least once a week to see what they have gotten in. If you time it right, you can find some of the most beautiful pieces at some really bargain prices... I rarely leave with finding at least one thing I “must have”. And the staff here is wonderful too... everyone is friendly and helpful, though usually quite busy and running around like crazy! Still they always take the time to greet everyone and offer their assistance. - If you love furnishing your home with nicer things, but prefer them at affordable prices, this is the place to go!

I love this store.  Should learn to leave my wallet in the car, but then I just have to go get it.   You can find fantastic bargains if you keep looking.  Outstanding pleasant staff and great selections on just about everything.  I swear half my house seems to be Velvet Shoestring.

The best of the Williamsburg area consignment shops. Furniture and decorative furnishings are absolutely their niche, and they do it well in their expansive showrooms. Friendly staff, high-quality merchandise, ever-changing product mix, and available delivery make this a place I can return to frequently. Moderate to higher price range, plenty of parking.

High end. Quality driven consignment. Virginia Metalcrafters and Waterford are frequent items available. Enjoyable to walk through, ALWAYS!

Best consignment shop! Friendly and helpful staff, fair prices. Monthly, automatic price reductions on inventory - if you're attentive you can score a pretty good bargain! No junk here - it's all good.

Cool "old stuff" at reasonable prices.  Great consignment shop!  If you need house adornments, this is the place! Or if you need to sell nice articles, stop by and talk to the owners.

Very nice place with lots of antiques most items have a very healthy price tag on them. I recommend going to see all of the pieces from years past, however it is not a place to go if you are on a budget

High quality, great stuff but moves quickly so don't wait. Lots of traditional well made furniture. Sometimes I find it understaffed, or just a lot of customers in at same time.

Good selection of consigned furniture and accessories. Both traditional and contemporary. All items are cleaned up and touched up. Staff is helpful. I found a lovely bookcase and am waiting for the price reduction.
Not cheap but best consignment shop in Williamsburg.

After seeing their attractive listings of decorative items on Facebook, I was curious. I had first asked for prices online after seeing something I might like and was quickly told their items "sold too fast "to bother to note pricing online. In my mind, if you have time to post a picture you can mention a price, right?( Recently they have shown some pricing with photos, guess  I helped make a change! ..)
So I decided to drive the hour to see this shop,  I love second-hand n consignment stores, where great bargains can sometimes be found. It's always hit or miss..but its fun to shop for them!
The store is neat and well kept, their merchandise seems in good shape too. In my view, there wasn't a huge range of styles, and while the furnishings were abundant and in better condition than most similar stores, I felt something was missing. Just like my online experience, the staff, in my view, felt a bit cool, and a bit less than attentive. The store appeared active, and a few items looked interesting, though a mix of older and newer wasn't clearly noticeable to the shopper.
If you're looking for a good quality second hand.. this could be your place, if you're looking for unusual or different/ exciting pieces, maybe not. Suggestion, Try it for yourself...

Prices and inventory are constantly evolving with the market. We do our best to curate only high quality furniture for our customers. We are sorry you won't stop again....it would be a shame as our turnover is quite high and we are entering our peek season. Have a great holiday season.

This is a nice, somewhat large consignment store but in my opinion is just too expensive. I saw many nice items, although nothing unusual, but everything I saw was much higher than I expected it to be, except for 2 items. One was a very small short and chipped marble pedestal for a bit more than $100 and a statue I already own they had for $79. I also saw it in Richmond for $135 recently so I guess $79 is cheap. My mother got it years ago at a garage sale. A painting I liked was $600. Everything I saw seemed to be hundreds. Williamsburg has a reputation as an overpriced tourist destination, so maybe that explains the prices. A very similar consignment store in Greater Richmond has I think a better selection of items and is more reasonably priced. I wouldn't stop in this place again.

I would not bother scheduling with this store to pick up items. They had me send pictures of my item to consign with them, they pronounced the pictures "very saleable," and for that reason I did not try any other avenue of getting rid of the stuff even though they wouldn't be able to come out and get it for a month and a half. So now it just took up space for a month and a half, and I still have to find some other way to get rid of it. Pretty poor behavior. I would also note that every time I called the store to talk to them about the pickup, no one ever seemed to know what I was talking about or have any way of checking the information.

Recently visited from out of town and surprised; not in a good way.  The place was overcrowded with so much stock it was difficult to see it all, but the price tags were eye popping.  I thought the prices were very highly marked.  One example was a clay colonial bird bottle priced for $39.  I had just seen one in a shop on Duke of Gloucester street that was brand new for only $34.99.  Why was a used one at this location valued at 111% higher?  It may be what local folks expect from a second hand store, but not this shopper.

I have purchased several nice items from this store. I however, have sent them several messages via Instagram and Facebook regarding consigning items with them and have never received a response. I then called the store and was told I needed to make an appointment. Fine, I can do that. So, I left my phone number and a request for someone to return my call. I have never received a call back.  I have never been flat out ignored by a business, let alone a business where I have been a paying customer.

We have used The Velvet Shoestring to buy and sell furniture over the years, with good results, but today was the last day that we will be supporting this local business. We walked into the store at 4:50 to look for a bedside table set. We knew full well they closed at 5:00 and had no intention of staying past business hours. We were greeted by an older lady who said “Hello”, looked at her watch and then said “Hurry up!”

Well that was an easy request because it took one quick lap around the store to see that most of the items they had were junk and overpriced. It’s usually hit or miss there as far as inventory goes but today was a real miss. We were out of there by 4:56 and we will not be returning. The drive across town was a waste of our time and to have to deal with an attitude on top of that was just unacceptable. This place has gone down the tubes since we began using them years ago. Luckily there are other consignment shops in the area that have better offerings and much better customer service.

**As a side note I have always dealt with the younger ladies working there in the past and they have all been pleasant. I am not sure if this was the owner or not but her attitude today lost this business 2 customers for life and hopefully more after people read this review.

Beware! I have given the Velvet Shoestring multiple chances and each time the staff are extremely rude, uninterested, and seem too busy to offer help or a pleasant greeting. We stopped in for a quick peek 10 minutes before the store closed today. We were aware of the store hours before arriving and confirmed by the large sign on the door that they closed at 5 but still wanted to take a quick lap to look for side tables. As soon as we entered one of the staff immediately told us to “hurry up” without offering an accompanying pleasantry- huge turnoff. Unfortunately this is the third horrible experience I’ve had here. Will not be returning on the principle of horrible customer service!

We asked to consign a family owned Kerman Carpet and the owner didn’t know the difference between a machine made Karastan and a hand woven Kerman. We viewed the items in her shop. Mostly reproduction. My guess is that they buy mostly from dealers and prefer not to accept local estates. No bargains in this shop. Mark up is very high.
